New Friends, And Old Mates

No, both species of snakehead we have are dwarf species. The larger one (not show here) is Bleheri's snakehad, or rainbow snakehead (Chana bleheri) and those shown here are frogmouth snakeheads (Chana gachua). Both grow to around 6".

Well, the rainbow was coloured up well, so here's a trio of shots of him:

And a few more of the whole tank, as it's the only way to try and show all 9 of the balas without too bad blurring:

Still liking the snakeheads! Here in Maine we have real strict fish and aquatic plant laws. We cant even have outdoor pond fish. (Koi, Goldfish, etc.). :( Like it was said before, we have had issues with certain fish species here.

The tank is 6x2x2, 150 Imperial gallons. It is filtered by two sump tanks (each 24x14x12 - 14 UK gallons) and will probably soon be converted into a wet/dry or an algae turf scrubber (ats means far less water changes).

All in all the tank probably cost around £400 to set up. the tank was about £180, the wood to make the stand and hood was around another hundred with the rest going on the pipework and sump tanks.

Shows you can have a good tank for very little, providing you are prepared to do a bit of DIY. This tank only costs about an extra £100 to my first tank which was only 37 gallons.
