I know that a lot of people post on the Livebearers forum to learn about their new hobby and first batch of fry. Its great to be able to share the excitement of breeding fish but there are too many people posting the exact same story over and over again. There are dozens of posts about fry from guppies, platies, swordtails or mollies and they bury any post about other livebearers. There are literally hundreds (if not more) of species of livebearers and only 4 species (basically) that are talked about on here!

Maybe there should be a new forum for some of the more exotic species that are livebearers like Goodeids, Anableps or Limias.

Good idea! Why don't you ask this in the board suggestions place where a mod will see it or PM one :)

yes good idea although i don't own such species but i think it will help the "newbies" get a better answer and find the answer witout the moer experienced fiskeepers getting annoyed :)

That's what I wanted since I got my guppies (3days ago :shifty: ) It would be helpful to talk about a certain type instead having a broad forum.

that would be great and i dont know much about other unusual livebearers so it would be intresting to find out a bit about them.

It's a good idea, and I'd be all for it, but I simply don't think it'd get enough traffic to make it worthwhile. Not very many people on here have the rarer Livebearers. Maybe as this forum grows, and you get more rare Livebearer keepers/wanters, it would work. But now I just can't see it working.

I'm not trying to shoot down your idea, I like it. But if you get a special "Other" Livebearer forum, other people are going to want a Oscar Forum, Puffer Forum, Dwarf Cichlid Forum...etc. :p I think it's probably best for now to just keep the fish in their main sections.

I understand about getting too specialized but how are you supposed to talk about these rarer fish when they get buried under dozens of "MY FISH HAD FRY" topics? Maybe there should be a dwarf cichlid forum, they tend to get buried under the oscars, demseys and africans in the two cichlid forums. I think these are more valid forums than the oddball and hybrid forums. Maybe we should have a specialization forum with the rarer fish and NO common fish topics allowed?

May I ask if zerba danio (or other any danio) are livebearers too? IF so I want to see them in a new liverbearers forum too hehehe...

heard they are eggs layers too :) Another danios lover 'born'

Yeah, I agree.
It takes a while to get the mods warmed up to it, then they have to talk to William or Andy....
Us Marine people just got ur own Nano section, an Idea that I think's been around for qwuiet a few months...

Nope, all Danios are egg-layers. :) So the questions for them go in the 'Cyprinids, Characins and Atherinids' Forum.

Guppymonkey - True. However, I just can't see a specialized rare Livebearer forum being used all that much. It's true what you mentioned, the majority of all Livebearer topics are on Platies, Mollies, Guppies, Swordies etc. Only once in a while do you see the ones on the rarer Livebearers.

I'm sure you would be very helpful in it, and so would nmonks (I hope?) but who else? If you really want this, I think what you should do is get a lot of people behind you that want it, then make a topic in Board Announcements and Suggestions detailing why you want it. In my experience, that's usually how you get new forums, presenting a good reason, and having enough people behind you. Of course, William and the mods approving plays a big part in getting it too :)P), but what I mentioned is a start. :)

Perhaps there could be a sub-forum in this section for the rare guys?

heh, you could just keep bumping "unusual livebearer" posts so they don't drown in fry.

(but remember, sometimes the squeaky wheel gets fixed and sometimes it just gets a good kicking...)

Much as I would love to learn about other livebearers I dont think they would give the go ahead for such a small specialised section. The fact that most lfs dont stock much outside the range of the usual livebearers means that there isnt the same level of interest in the more unusual species. Its a pity :/
Having said that Id certainly be a user as IMO the livebearer section is starting to show alarming similiarities to the b***a section

Eh? What does that mean? And I'm guessing you mean Betta section? -_-

I try to do my best in here, answering people's questions and trying to help people out. If I'm the problem, just tell me, and I'll try to change. :)

Thanks Annastasia, I was not knowing where I can find posts about them (But now I do) :) thanks for that

Annastasia,I certainly was not meaning you.I find you extremely helpful and knowledgeable.
I was not in fact pointing the finger at anyone. Its just that every 2nd post is about new fry as every 2nd post in the betta section is about my new betta and it has got to the stage where unless someone states that their new fry got up in the morning, went for a jog in the park.and came home and solved the sudoko puzzle I am tending to not read them
BTW I posted one myself a few weeks ago :*)
