We just got some new damselfish! I dont know anything about them so i need help. There r 3 really bright blue ones and 2 yellow ones also very bright. I would like to know how u can tell if they r male or female? Websites r telling me different things. Also wat kind are these bright fish? And one of them already found a place behind a rock and is chasing other fish away they r the only ones in the tank also. Does that make it a male??? Help plz new to this brackish water!???

I think you are right. I believe they are marine fish.

Lol im not so sure myself they r in our saltwater tank cause they help cycle it and i dont know anything about them

Also i was told they r damselfish lol they dont even look like the ones in the pictures im trying to find out wat they r

You had refered to the tank as "brackish." Is it s tank with brackish conditions? Or is it a saltwater/reef aquarium?

People have been known to use them in a new tank but why would you when its so cruel and so simple to fishless cycle a tank?

It wasnt my decision its my stepdads tank and the pet store ppl told him that it would help the cycle.....thats not my question i just want to know what they r and do..thats all

Its salwater by the way idk the difference between salwater and brakish i thot they were the same

If you took a picture of the fish, it would be easier to identify for you.

Ill try i dont have a camera i can use my ipod..just put blue damselfish in the images thing on google its the first one
