So I went to the lfs this afternoon (which is only a 10 minute drive from home) and picked out two pretty little lyre tail black mollies for the 20 gallon. I carefully packed them in my insulated bag (it was only 0 degrees fahrenheit today.) Got home, opened the bag and guess what? There are now 16 mollies swimming in the bag!!

My poor little girl gave birth to 14 little ones during the 10 minute trip home!

The change from one tank to another is hard enough....Do you think she'll be ok? She seems to be swimming around ok and nibbling at the plants. Although her back end seems to hang down a bit. (I guess mine would too if I gave birth to 14 babies!!!)

How cool,
16 mollys for the price of 2!. Just keep an eye on them but they should be ok. Do you have the fry in a tank of there own?

john

LOL, your lucky! I hope the mother is ok, she sounds like she is. What a time to give birth! You would think she would have preferred a little more room, in a nice tank rather than a plastic bag! Goodluck with the brood! :D

No, they do not have their own tank. I only have two, this one and a 55 gallon in the midst of fishless cycling. I didn't plan on having little ones this soon!!

The tank is heavily planted though and there are lots of hiding places.

So, for a fry tank, could I use something as small as a 5 gallon??
