New Fish!

just been too portons pet and aquatics near salisbury, great place, very cheap!!
i bought 3 albino corydoras and 3 Corydoras leucomelas. ive noticed 1 of the corydoras leucomelas is missing its barbels and is missing half its tail. it is not really moving alot either also another 1 of them is looking like it is swimming upside down most of the time and is not moving alot either does anyone know what i should do with them?? i dont have another tank to put them in and the shop is an hour away from were i live anyone got any suggestions

How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

How long did you climatise the new fish for.
It sounds like he dying if he's upside down.
Is he bloated.
Any red streaking or sores on his body.

I'm so sorry to read your bad news. It's almost certain that your corys are suffering from a bacterial infection, probably due to bad water conditions due during shipping or at the lfs. You could treat them with an antibacterial medicine, but it might or might not save them at this point. It would be a good idea to remove them from your tank. If you don't have another tank, a clean storage container will do.

Please keep a careful eye on the other corys for the next few weeks. They have been exposed to the same bacteria as this sick ones and might show symptoms later. Be sure that you do good water changes and keep the bottom well vacuumed.

I hope they will be OK, and look forward to reading them about them in the Corydoras section in the future.

the albino ones are fine and very active and ive noticed the one missing parts of its tail is now swimming along fine with the other cory that was ok. the one that was swimming upside down doesnt look to good so i think i will take it out and put it in a clean container.

as for the water stats, they are fine as i have had fish in there for nearly a year.
the one that is swiming upside down is not bloated, it is quite skinny actually and i put food in for them and it didnt go for it it didnt move, i think it will die so i think i mite take it out and dispose of it humanely. its a shame really as it cost me £4 itself!!

fish init: 2 mollies, 2 shrimp and the new fish i got( the corys )
i had lots of other fish but got rid of them as i wanted to start my tank again with diferent fish.

Did you check them out before you bought them? I make it a habit to stare at the tank when I will be buying a fish. Personally I do not buy if I see anything that even looks suspicious. I have no quaratine tank so I do what I can.

I can understand what happened. It's easy to get excited when you see the fish you want. Sometimes the salespeople will tend to hurry you along, and even pick out the fish for you. Please don't let that happen. Take your time picking out whatever individual fish you want. If you ask them to put them into a plastic specimen container, it makes it easier to give them a final looking at before they bag them up.

If the cory with the problem tail looks OK, let's hope he is. He might be over the bad time and could regrow the damaged part.

sadly i had to get rid of the one that looked really bed and skiny as i decided that it was suffering and i just decided it was the best thing for it. the other one though is doing great and i think i can see new parts of its tail forming already!! it has paired off with the other 1 of its tipe and both are doing fine. al fish seem to look healthy soo its looking up
