-_- hiya fish lovers, im a new member, can u help me with something please, i bought 2 female mollies 2nite 4 my male mollie, they r black, my male mollie is yellow, one of the new female mollies is attacking my tiger barb(not new, but single lol) i thought mollies were nice placid fish, my tiger barb is luvly an im upset that the new female mollie is attacking it, i dont know wot 2 do, can u help, thanku loads, new fish owner :S

firstly , mollies need some salt to be at their best in an aquarium , and yes thety are generally quite placid fish. secondly , and more importantly , tiger barbs NEED to be in groups of at least six , both for their sakes and the sakes of their tank mates

Black Mollies (especially) do need a bit of salt to make their water slightly brackish. Without that they will have very short lives indeed :(
And I agree too that Tiger Barbs must be in groups of at least 6. If you can't do that, take it to your lfs so that someone else can add it to their shoal.

Ps: I see from your profile that you also have a "leopard pleco" in your tank :/ if that's a common or sailfin catfish, it urgently needs to be in a larger tank that 2ft I'm afraid.
Also, I don't think a 2ft tank is ideal for Tiger Barbs - they really get quite large (chunky deep bodies) and a shoal will take up all the room in your tank - leaving no space for anything else. While they are in a cramped home. They are quite actively territorial / moderately aggressive fish I'm afraid.

Hiya

I thought mollies were normally placid, but I had to re-home 2 for excessive bullying. The main bully also killed 2 new platys by constant head barging and nipping! The 2 bullies actually ganged up on a third mollie and kept chasing it so they had to go cos they wouldn't even let it come out of the plants to feed.

Tiger barbs should be in a group of at least 6 - I have 6 and they all hang out together. Perhaps if you got more Tigers then the bully molly might feel outnumbered and leave the single Tiger alone?

If it continues, I would suggest re-homing. :/

thanku all 4 ur replies, i did have 6 barbs but i woke up one day an all were dead bar one, id only had them 3 days, i was gutted, im actually shopping for a larger tank at the mo, the leopard plec is very small at the mo ive had him 3 wks, also my new female mollie has calmed down, they were starving wen i got them in the tank, ive found out also that the shop im using are losing fish daily at the mo so ive gotta find a new shop, thanku again for ur help, debs, xxx.

BTW most LFS loose at least some fish daily, they order so many in casulties are bond to happen, unless the fish are diseased if that's what you mean?
