I am a newbie (ish).  I have had multiple tanks for a few years.  When I set up my 55 gal I was given the ABI Nexx filter with one extension, which I do not love.  I have a new 75 gal tank that I am looking to set up. I have never bought a canister filter.  I am looking into fluval 406.  I am not set on it.  Does anyone have pros/cons or opinions on better options?  Thanks in advance!

I've not tried a Fluval so am not passing judgement.  I have two Eheim canisters that have been running continually now for 17 years and they have never once failed.  I also have a Rena Filstar XP3 that I bought five years ago [couldn't buy Eheim locally at the time].  I find the Eheim easier and faster to clean, but I'm not aware of much difference in performance.  I doubt the Rena will have the longevity (and perhaps not the reliability either) of Eheim.  The initial cost is greater for Eheim, but they do have the proven track record.

BTW, I use Fluval media (the ceramic disks and the biomax) in my Eheims and Rena.  It is much less expensive.

Byron.

Thanks.  I have read reviews on both Eheim and Fluval.  Seems to be that Eheim last for a long time, which is great!
