I've just been through the same dilemma with my 125l. I heard how good the external filters were and thought I have to have one! The fluval 205 was supposed to be more than adequate for my tank but when I got to the LFS to buy it along with everything else heater, substrate, test kit etc I just couldn't afford it at £70-£80 they were asking. So I went for a fluval U3 which can cope with up to 200l. I've just set the tank up tonight and i'm well pleased with the filter and all the adjustable flow options on it I paid £40 for it brand new, probably too much as I couldn't wait to set the tank up and didn't shop around, expensive LFS in general but the best one i've been to so will defo be going back i'd rather pay the extra for the quality advice and products.
If the tank has cleared up a bit over night then i'll post up some pics!
