Hi all,

I just bought a small cheap filter to use in a small grow-out tank. The fry are currently in the breeder trap. I've put the new filter in the main tank so that it can pick up bacteria. When it's ready, I plan to put it in the small tank and then put the fry in there.

How long should it take for the bacteria to establish? When will I know it's ready? Or should I just take some media from the large filter and put it into the smaller one?

What is the recommended/best/fastest way? Any opinions?

Many thanks....

Irf.

Wow - that's a long time! My fry may well have outgrown the breeder by then.

I have bought some ammonia for my 2nd large take, hoping to do an accelerated fishless cycle. Could I speed things up in the new grow-out tank by using filter media and also feeding the bacteria some ammonia?

Thanks for help.

Irf.
