New Filter And Tank

i will have my new tank running next week, at last..... and i am putting all my media from my old tank into the new external. obviously i will be transfering my fish at the same time as there will be no media in the old tank and i cant run both tanks at once due to lack of sockets. is this ok to do? also if i leave it a couple of weeks b4 adding new fish should the new filter by able to manage the extra load? i will be running a second external with all new media, will this cycle along side the other on its own using bacteria in the water etc or should i put a bit of old media in there too?

I'm currently in the middle of an upgrade and I was told by a few people on here to run both the new filter and old filter side by side for a few weeks and by then the new filter should have a healthy bacteria colony that can take over the duties of the old one so I'm guessing your plan will work.
