All right,

So after the words of wisdom from a couple of you I'm starting over with a new "female" I purchased from a small LFS here. He assured me she was a she and is young enough to breed. I think she's a Cambodian, right? Perfect cream body with a lovely long red tail. I had thought that she was a young male but I saw the egg spot.

Opinions?

I'm giving her two-three weeks on a diet of frozen blood worms, live white worms, brine shrimp flakes, and frozen brine shrimp. In moderation of course.

Here's Jorani,

I really like her so hopefully she'll work out with my halfmoon better than my other female did. ;)

The egg spot is a pretty good indicator she is very nice and yes your right she is a Cambo! Id personally add a pellet into that diet so its not overtly fatty so Hikari betta plus, blood worm, brineshrimp something like that. Good luck with her!

I would definitely use a pellet like hikari for your little betta to go along with what you have. It's good stuff. She's a very pretty fish. =)

Thanks! I just love her!

Too pretty a fish to pass up and I would like to eventually try different color combos with Cambodian. I couldn't find any Hikari pellets at either LFS here, they really only have flakes. I'll keep looking though.

I know the tank's pretty yellow but I have two pieces of driftwood and the tannins it gives off make my fishies happy so I'm happy!

Yeh looks female. Agree to add pellets into the diet :good:

Just for reference, the appearance of an Ovispot is not a definate indication of a female. Young males will often appear to have one too.
