New Female Guppy!

Hi everyone! I just wanted to share the rare event of me getting buying another fish. I just got a new female fancy guppy today, she is a yellow snakeskin (I think) tailed guppy. Here are some pictures of her, we decided to name her Lemondrop. Any comments, ideas, or envies allowed. Also, I've seen her hanging about our little platy a lot so hopefully they are friends! I'm really excited to see some fry from her.

In this one she is in the bag, adjusting to the world around her and pecking at the plastic.

In this one she is recently out of the bag, swimming around and checking her new tankmates out.

In these her gravid spot is significantly darker, is this just because of lighting, or is she pregnant or stressed?

Her spot in the last pic does look a little dark for her not to be pregnant, comparing her to mine when the get knocked up. Hope your fry look good.

I have a green cobra male and three red cobra males and recently got a female that looks just like that to mate to the green cobra male. I have a half black female with red cobra tail markings I hope will mate with one of the male red cobras, I may cross them up as well. My first fry from the half black red cobra female are just starting to show the first hints of color....can't wait to see how they turn out!

I have a green cobra male and three red cobra males and recently got a female that looks just like that to mate to the green cobra male. Cool! So far Lemondrop is doing fine in her new environment. =) Black with red snakeskin markings, awesome!

She is definitely pregnant now, her gravid spot is almost black, her belly is squared, and I think I can see the white spot where the fry come out! I am really interested in what fry she will have, when she was in the LFS she was with a few sky-blue tailed and navy-blue bodied males. Now I'm thinking about turquoise snakskin guppies..

Unfortunately I won't be home much of tomorrow, so hopefully she will have them when I get home or tonight. We are probably leaving them in the tank this time, maybe if there is only one we will put it in the divider. Also, will our lone guppy eat newborn fry or harass them if we decide to move one or 2 into there? I hope not since his/her mouth is not quite big enough to get his/her mouth around them.

When you can see the eyes in her belly she well be close to dropping. Looks like you got hiding spots for your fry so they should be good. I float plants in my tank when I have new young, because they like to hang out on top. I keep all my community fish in the one tank and I have a lot of young on the go right now lol. I have about 70 to 80 guppy fry and sword, balloon molly’s, and sail fin mollies in one tank. When they start to show there color is when I separate male from female.

What do you exactly mean the 'eyes'? Like black and white dots? Because her gravid spot is lighter and she is thinner so I'm wondering if its just the lighting or she had them but they were all eaten up. I don't see any but if there are I hope they are well hidden or squeezed into the divider.

I have found the coloring of the gravid spot not to be as much of an indicator of when they are nearing birth as the shape of their abdomen. They literally tend to "square off" right before birth, where their abdomen goes from looking like a smoothe curve from tip to tail to more of a \__/ shape. Mine usually drop within 24 - 48 hours of looking like this.

Well if she did have them she should drop again in about 28 days. The eye thing… you can see the frys’ eyes looking like little shiny dots. The fry well be really hard to spot if you did have them. Hope you find a couple of the at least.

She is getting a little squared off, here are some more recent pictures of Lemondrop! I don't think she dropped yet the last time, I think it was just me being un-knowing about squaring off.

Hello? I would really like some help on determining how much longer she has till she will drop.

She looks kinda round still. I go by after I see the frys eyes she should drop in a week. Looks like she still has a few weeks to go in the 2ed last pic.

Okay, so I should expect fry in about 2-4 weeks then? In the top picture you can see her squared off belly more clearly.

She is very pretty. I suggest that you check the filter for fry...you might find a fry. I have done that before, and found healthy little fish!
