Went into a local LFS yesterday, just to look as Ive recently cut down tanks and fish (due to a house move) anyway, what do I find, but 2 large 8"+ S.Daemons  However, they were very very expensive, I wont tell you how much because you will think Im bonkers (I am of course). So I left, very tearful and came home. I then spent the whole night working out how to afford them and by midnight Id talked myself out of it, no money, what if Tigger my Oscar turned on them etc etc. Got up this morning, still saying no I wont do it, by the time Id had a shower @ 9am, my mind was changed and so off I went to get them :D

When I got there, found the manager and told him that I wanted the two geophagus Jurupari  that they had them labelled up as, promptly told him there correct id :p and waited while he went off to find a polybox for them. It was then I noticed a smaller 6" one all battered and covered in whitespot hiding in a cave. So when the guy came back I asked how much for that one too considering its condition, so he did a deal on the 3 for me. Never normally would I buy a fish in such a mess or with knowingly having whitespot, but there wasnt a chance I was gonna leave him there in that state. So after the polybox leaking  we eventually bagged them seperately and away home we came, much much poorer than when I woke up :hyper:

They have now been in the tank 4 hours, no problems at all with my Oscar, he is very placid anyway, the tinfoil barb who is 10" spooked them initially but they are slowly coming round to him, they have eaten some bloodworm and brineshrimp (with garlic) and are starting to come out and investigate their new home. Tank temp is up to nearly 30, protozin added for the whitespot and some extra plants (more expense) added for cover.

So (Im waffling ) here they are, still a little stressed but in a few days there full colours will come back out again. Love these fish, have missed them since I rehomed 4 a year back and never thought Id find them again.

This is Ra, he is the smallest, photos of his injuries included:

This is his good side:

This is Osiris slightly more confident, but still hiding a bit:

Apophis, still very shy but the largest of the 3:

From tomorrow, I start 50% daily water changes to clean Ra's injuries up and to help with the whitespot and keep dosing til its gone.

Excuse the scratches on the tank glass  Now I have to find some decent sand for them, whilst the gravel isnt particularly coarse, its not ideal for them.

Nice. My favourite of the Geophagus-type species.

If you can get the smaller one to eat, then I'm sure he'll heal fine with your temperature and water change schedule.

You will have the one up to full health in no time :good:

Lovely fish and great names! They look really nice in the pics (even Ra with all his wounds) but I bet they are absolutely stunning up close

Turned the tank lights on and hey presto, super confident fish emerged :D Not the best pics, too much light in the room :(

Stunning! Is it Ra's fins that are a beautiful deep red colour!!! Suitable name if so :)

No little ra, does have some red on his fins, but not fully coloured yet, he has a bit of growing to do to catch up not just size wise but colour wise too with the others.

Its apophis with those beautiful red fins, Osiris has them half coloured and has the larger black blotches to the flanks.

I keep looking at them  utterly gorgous

Unfortunately sad news, the littlest Ra, passed away sometime in the night :byebye: I think a combination of his injuries and the whitespot were just too much for him, Im gutted, I knew when I got him that his chances were slim, but I had to try to save him :(

Apophis and Osiris seem to be doing well though, really come out of themselves, frankly owning the tank now and eating well, bloodworms being their main diet it seems, trying to wean them onto some prima but they dont particularly like it yet.
