Well on Friday i picked up 10 beautiful little male black bar endlers.

They are currently only in a 5 gallon tank but i have 2 filters running and am keeping an eye on the water readings :good:

The reason for this is the 15 gal had a very bad outbreak of hair algae so have completely striped it down and am starting again, silly me didn't think about the filter at the time and went ahead and washed it.

So i am now going through cycling and setting up again, i am also planning on moving the tank so will do this before putting the endlers in there.

So heres some not so good pictures of them in there pink tank

Now to see about finding me some females :shifty:

I had been looking at getting some for a while, then I found someone Local on here so had no excuse not to get them.

Thanks for the comment.

they look like good endlers as they showing a short dordsal fin but are they showing a bottom sword? sign of a guppy cross.

A bottom sword is not necessarly a sign of a guppy cross. I have some traceable back to wild collection with some very nice bottom swords. A definite sign of guppy cross is washed out colors. The colors in an endler are vibrant and could never pass for pastel like in a guppy cross. Actually they look like nice endlers in that tank. Its too bad the tank got cleaned out of algae. It is an endler's favorite food.

I am very strongly considering endler once my cycle is complete
these pics have sold them to me even more!
could you tell me,what are they like in the tank?
ie: active,shy ect ect

IME there's no such thing as a shy endler's in a species tank. I have 2 separate groups, one in a 10 and the other in a 30 long. The 10 contains only endler's, snails, and some incredible hair algae that they seem to enjoy. They're all over the tank unless it's morning or evening feeding time. Right before feeding they're clustered at the front of the tank watching me very closely.
I recently added 6 L333 juvies and 7 similar-sized (same size as the adult female Endler's) cichlids to the 30 long. I've noticed the Endler's mostly staying together in a tight group since the cichlids were introduced 2 days ago. The fry were moved into a net breeder, since the little cichlids were eyeing them up as potential food.
As far as I've been able to tell, the adults in the 10 haven't eaten any of their fry. I did notice 2 fry MIA in the 30 before the cichlids were introduced. I suspect the environment may have something to do with fry predation. There's relatively little algae in the 30 long, and considerably more current. The 10 not only has a much more abundant growth of algae, but also smaller-grade gravel (pea gravel in the 30) that makes it easier for them to pick up food from the substrate.

Endlers will eat fry but they don't go looking for them the way some livebearers do. In a species only tank, a fry less than 1/4 inch long will swim right past an adult and usually not have any trouble.
They are very easy to keep and are prolific. So far I have been keeping them in a species only tank at 77F and somewhat hard water with a pH about 7.6. As far as being prolific, sometimes in the spring you might find rabbits that breed like endlers. My 5 pairs from a known wild collection have become somewhere between 250 and 300 in the last 6 months. Needless to say many of them are young.
The best description I have heard of their personality came from my wife who says they look like guppies on speed. They do bring the whole tank alive with their movement. Just recently I introduced some corydoras habrosus into one of the tanks and they seem to be OK together. My observation of the cories before I got them was that they were a bit shy in their tank at the lfs. They have come out of their shell in the lively environment that my endlers provide.

edit: BTW my avatar is one of my young males.

Oh there definately not shy, very active fish, always flaring/displaying to each other

helterskelter: they do have bottom swords as shown in the second picture, they are very vibrant just the camera doesn't show it that well

they are very nice and OMG PINK GRAVIL! :D

Any sword is a cross in endlers the may have colour in the extream edges of the fin looking like a sword but they will not have an extension to the tail.

And colour's is not a way to tell balck bar cross have loads of colour and so do snake skin and tiger endler's none of them look wash out.

looking good and could be pure endler, as they look like them.
