Hey all,

Just added a male dwarf gourami to my tropical tank, and wish i'd done it sooner, he's great :good: . He's a bit quiet, but very different to everything else in the tank. He's quite silvery, but with red stripes and cobalt blue near the front.

Would adding a few more plants make him more confident? He spends most of his time at the back of the tank or in the vegetation.

I would add another female as they will play but if you can't find one you could get another male of the same size so they would bother eachother. I have two that are active in their bickering but never really hurt eachother. I dont recomend this though considering they bicker with the other fish in the tank to so they dont always bother eachother. other than adding a female their aren't really many things you can do though. Females have more curved dorsal fins although the younger they are the harder it is to tell (by the way i'm prettysure you have a dwarf gorami called a turquoise gourami but not positive most dwarves behavior I similiar but my reply is based on experience with this type)

I'm to the limit with my tank stocking, so i can't add any more fish. He probably just needed a bit more time to get used to his surroundings as he's more confident now.

plants are good. Gourami's really appreciate lots of floating plants like elodea java moss and duckweed.

Do you have any pics? Would love to see some because I'm planning on getting neon tetras, platties and 2 dwarf gouramis. How do your neons and dwarf gourami get along? I hade somebody tell me that they would be agressive with each other.
