New Convict Cichlid's Coming Wednesday Cant Wait!

I went to this garden centre about a week ago not intending on getting any fish, I've have tropical in the past and then changed to cold water but unfortunatley they got ammonia poisoning because my filter hadnt been working and so my boyfriend saved some and put them in his pond.

Anyway...

Seen this breeding pair of convicts and i just had to have them, so the lady has kept them for me and i'm getting them wednesday wooooo!!

Cant wait, i'm gunna let them breed and when the fry are about 1 or 2cm big i take them back to the store for them to sell, they'll love me lol

Doing there job for them!

Congratulations
Before you buy them, check with the shop or other local shops that they will buy them from you. Convict cichlids are beautiful fish but not in demand so much any more as they will breed regularly. Unfortunately, they can also be very aggressive and there are very few fish that can be kept with them, especially if they are a breeding pair.

Is your tank all ready and cycled for them? I guess they'll need a few caves and bogwood in there as well as a decent pH

yeah, there in the shop i got my eye on them straight away and the lady was happy to put them off sale for me!!

Its a tank for them on their own, it'll be a luxury for them lol

The store are taking them off me for free, i dont mind doing it at all, also i've been in touch with another local store and they said they will have some too so it should be ok getting rid of them so my tank doesnt get over run!

I was supposed to get them today but they lady wasnt in and the man wasnt sure he could sell them as they've been took off sale, for me that was lol but anyway.

Sounds like you have everything under control and I'm glad you have managed to get your lfs to have the young back off you. Good luck with them

I absolutly love fish and i had keyhole cichlids when i had tropical before but they were only young ones, so didnt pair up, i'm so excited, i love seeing them grow and that. I was gutted today when i couldnt get them, i was ready to have a 3 year olds paddy in the middle of the shop lol

Lol, should imagine the staff were happy that you didn't throw a tantrum.
Big, big fan of Keyhole cichlids, have a pair myself although they have never bred. Looking to have a big shoal of them in the next few weeks, so I know how exciting getting new fish can be.

i know i just like the parenting they have i think its amazing, i've also got a 30l tank that i could set up if i really needed to for the fry, sure my mam would love me lol but never mind.

The reason i cant wait to do it is coz the first tropical fish i bought were platys and when i got home put them in and the next morning there were 300 eyes looking back at me, there was a female that had dropped them over night, most of them got eaten or sucked up the filter but 4 hid and grew i loved seeing them poke out to get some food lol

I can understand what you are saying, I enjoy breeding fish myself as it gives a great sense of satisfaction.
I was disappointed that my Keyholes' didn't breed but I love how graceful and peaceful they are.
Make sure you post pics when you get your new additions

oooo i deffinately will, i wanna show them off lol there the albino ones like the one in my pic, not the stripy ones.

It was either them or pair where it was 1 stripy and 1 albino and i've seen what the fry looked like so i prefered the both albino, might seem mean but aw well lol
