Ok people I'm in the market for a new computer and have looked at all the main places, ie Dell, PC World etc but am now looking into a custom built system as can't seem to find any with decent graphics cards in those commercial shops. Mainly I want the comp for all obvious activities plus a bit of light gaming and graphics work. Here's the specs of what im currently looking at;

Motherboard Asus P8H61-M X, 2xDIMM, Max. 16GB, M-ATX - Included
Memory 4GB (2 x 2GB) Mushkin PC10600 1333MHz DDR3 - Included

I don't have a massive budget and this comes in at £433.00 (£360 ex VAT)

Any opinions?

Dinopc.com do custom builds. If you haven't already done so, have a look at their website and see how they compare.
MOH bought me a PC from there with an upgraded Nvidia graphics card and for the price at the time was pretty good value.
In fact that is the PC I'm using at the moment as I type.

It rings a bell, I will double check as Ive been on so many custom pc sites that im getting confused between them

Just reconfigured the above specs on Arbico, to a 650w power supply and ATI HD 5770 for an extra £5

Ok here's DinoPC

£405.99! (£338 ex VAT) the graphics card is better and it still comes out cheaper, I could even upgrade the ram to 8gb and it would be less!

Don't expect the case to be a good build quality.

£13.79 inc. VAT
:S

Personally I would ditch that case and the PSU it comes with for better quality ones.
Last thing you want is to let a cheap Japanese PSU fry all your other components

Which one are you referring to matt? There is a option, on the Dino PC one to upgrade to a Xigamatek 500w PSU, which ups my warranty to 2years parts

Im unsure of cases, does it matter that much? :S

Don't know if you've bought this already but I've been building pcs for a few years so I might be able to help you out :)

This build has a few problems, firstly the ram you chose will run in single channel as there is only one module which will give you a large performance loss, so get a dual channel kit if you can. Secondly the psu you chose is very cheap and will be quite likely to fail, I had a look on their site and you can have a 400w xigmatek for only £13 extra so I would go for that. Also as someone said above the case will be very poor quality at that price, depends how bothered you are about cooling really.

You could save even more money if you built it yourself, if you were up for it.

Thanks for the advice

Not bought yet, probably next week, i'll post up my new specs in a sec as ive changed a couple bits on it, then maybe you could advise?

Thanks

Edit: also not really looking to build myself as I don't have the time atm, I know its really just about putting bits together ( in some ways) but for this build im gonna get it built by someone who knows what they're doing

Haha fair enough, it does take a lot longer to do it yourself to be fair.

The new build looks much better mate, I would still change the ram to a dual channel kit like I said above though.

Im not sure what that means if im honest? Lol

Lol just read the first paragraph of this, it should give you an idea. In the most basic terms, it makes your pc run a lot faster but needs at least 2 sticks of ram to work. I would go with the 8gb corsair vengeance kit if you can afford it, 8gb isn't really necessary but that site doesn't have the option of a 4gb dual channel kit.

Right ok, there doesn't seem to be an easy way of understanding it completely without knowing that much about comps..

I was thinking of 8gb but have read that 6gb is all that will be used anyway, so if i was to up to 8gb, would the 2x4 gb corsair vengeance be a better option? Its £1 more than the 1x8gb

haha it's really not that complicated :p

It depends what you use your pc for, some photoshop files can take up over 16gb of ram. The vengeance kit would definitely be the best option :good:
