After a long time of debating what cichlids I'd like for my tank, I got in contact with a fantastic breeder who was incredibly helpful. After loads more research about the ones he had for offer, I went over to see his fish room yesterday and came back with these fantastic little guys :D

One of my Apistogrammoides pucallpaensis, I have a pair of these tiny guys. They're only 2.5cm at the moment and will hopefully get a little larger, although I believe that they won't get much bigger. Apparently it's these guys that may become pretty feisty but the rest of my fish should be able to hold their own against them.

And my male Laetacara araguaiae  he's so pretty ^^. Also have a pair of these.

The tank has a crazy amount of bogwood, plants and slate caves/shelves so hopefully aggression wont be too bad if they do spawn. They seem to be settling in well, although they are really quite shy. The pucs don't seem to mind people in front of the tank, but my Laetacara are really skittish.

Just wanted to share the new additions

hi did you get these from ste chester in runcorn i have some Laetacara araguaiae from him amongst other dwarfs. I find the Laetacara araguaiae to be the most feisty

Lol. I have found all Laetacaras to be very feisty, once adult !

It often surprises me how people describe them as "peaceful", just not my experience !

Thanks guys :)

Flagtail: Thanks :3

jacko32: Aye I got them from Ste; his fish room was absolutely amazing- everything was in perfect condition and the fish were just stunning- wanted to come home with more than I have the space for :D
I can imagine that they're going to be feisty- I have a male betta in the tank next to them who flares at everything. He flared at the big male, who then responded by "charging" back :p They're in with female betta and gourami, so I'm not too worried about anything not being able to hold their own against them.

The pucs are being the most docile so far and don't mind you moving around in front of the tank or watching them. The L.araguaiae are venturing out a bit more, and got a good look at them at feeding time. They seem to love their blood worm :D

hamfist: I think I'm about to find out that dwarfs seem to think they're bigger than they really are XD They're fantastic characters though :p

Carlovel1: He's so pretty  Find myself watching him and the female the most- they're fascinating fish to look at :D

First problems have arisen D:

Everything has been going fine, apart from one of my little pucs is now missing quite a bit of his/her tail. I've seen one female betta chase the puc once, and I'm wondering if she sees them as prey as they are still so little at the moment? So what would be the best course of action?
The little guy is still active and has just eaten.

I have a 60 ltr tank with a very mellow and young male betta who is recovering from damaged fins. Would it be worth risking moving the pucs to the 60 ltr, provide lots and lots of caves to hide in, and wait for them to grow out a bit before re-introducing them to the 202 ltr? Or should I just leave them to it in the current tank? I added another rock cave today which the pucs seemed to immediately claim as theirs.

Thanks very any ideas.

its more likely to be the laetacara they seem to do it when the lights are out mine did my bolivian rams and 2 of my angel fish i would try make some tiny caves only big enough for the pucs thats what i did for my apistogramma baenschi.

I've been to ste's fishroom too, its awesome :hyper: I got some cacatuoides from him. Jealous of all the apistos he keeps....

The fish look great :)

jacko32: Thanks for that. I've not seen the Laetacara interact with them at all yet, but as you say it could well be at night. The female betta are still showing too much interest for my liking. I have a divider that I could always use in the 60 ltr to separate them from the betta, do you think it's worth moving them for a little while till they get a bit bigger? And would they be ok in about 30ltrs for a little while? I'm going away to uni in a few weeks, and even though my bf is going to look after the tanks, I'd worry about them being in the 202ltr without me being able to keep an eye on them.

PDSimon: I know! He had loads of baby angel fish which were so beautiful XD And far too many cichlids to choose from :p I was really tempted by his cacatuoides too. When I next have space them I'm definitely going to get more- I seem to be hooked on dwarf cichlids XD

ArnieStinger: I hope things pick up :p I was so excited about having them, and problems have already started >.<

Grand :D I shall do that then tomorrow. It's gonna be interesting to try and catch them >.< They seem to like to hide a lot.
