Hi all, i have just bought a 2nd hand tank. Its 96 litre/25 gallon. I would like to have a cichlid tank but not sure if it sbig enough or how to go about starting one.
Any advice guys? Many thanks

Prolly not big enough for large cichlids but it would be fine for some small ones that you could relocate to a larger tank later on. I recomend maybe like 5-6 mbuna or a few yellow labs. A pair of convicts would be nice as well, small ones that is!

How big of a tank do I need for one, for some big ones? Are we talking like a 6foot tank or something. Would i be better of waiting till I can afford one of those and find the space of course!!

Maybe stick to the normal fish then. Cheers for your advice

I think a 4 footer would give you lots of options for africans. I have about 20 labs and peacocks in a 48 x18 and they happy and healthy.

although it is small - what length is it? 24" 30" 36".....

if it is is 36" then you maybe able to use it as a juve tank for a while as you save up for a larger tank....

This is a recording, and will repeat on an indefinite cycle:
The only ones you can try in that size of tank is some dwarf shell dweelers.

Seriously though you need to stop holding the mythconception that any tank under 30 gallons is a shelldweller tank. Shelldwellers are one option, however as you will read on cichlidforum, there are other options, particularly smaller species as pairs, trios and the like. Also maybe you could consider starting a tank with juveniles, and upgrading once they grow out: eg Lab sp can work in a small group in that size tank, maybe with a bristlnose. As could a species like Psy Scolofi (Pidani) with bristlnoses on algal patrol. Maybe you should have a read of the nano section in marine: while the tank size is not ideal, and requires some skill, for some people it is the only option due to finacial constraints or lack of physical space. I in no way claim to be an expert, but I have researched much into this idea and will convert my community into a small feature species/mixed juvenile tank in time.

My only advice is to read through everything on cichlid forum: look at your smaller species options, and see what you can find, rather to listening to people who jump to the same answer each time without thinking of the possibilities.

lmao what ever u do dont lisen to Zagggon! he gives worse info then me! lol i would say some dwarf Central/South american chichlids would do good (Rams) ect.
