Today, I ordered a new family member for my Cichlid/Tetra/Madagascan aquarium. A couple days ago, I accidently again discovered a new breed of a Cichlid—the Sunshine Peacock. It has an amber body, dorso, fins and tail with blue shimmering scales. So I went to the FS to order one, and they couldn't find it on the site they order fish from. All they could find is the Golden Peacock, and they say it's the same exact fish, that some people call it Golden, and others call it Sunshine. So I wanted to come in here and ask you guys/gals if it is the same exact fish or not. I'm posting 2 of the best photos that I can find of this fish that's supposedly the same one. You tell me. lol

This photo above is of course, by my dicription of it earlier, the Sunshine Peacock.

And this is the Golden Peacock that the FS ordered for me. See how it is 95% yellow, 5% blue on its dorso, but not at all amber like the other one and no blue on its scales? So I'm afraid they're not the same kind at all, and when I get mine, it'll end up being like the bottom photo, and nothing at all like the top one. :/

personally I dont buy from a lfs that relies on common names. if I'm going to spend the money, time and effort on a fish I'm going to go with someone that knows the proper name and uses it. common names are too easy to screw up and use for a number of fish.

go thru here and find the one you like best, then take the scientific name to the store to get the RIGHT fish from his dealer

The second pic is a "Gold Peacock" they are hybrids with an unknown lineage.

Personally, I'd cancel the order, and find a supplier that uses scientific names, otherwise you may end up with a lot of surpise species, or more hybrids.

Edit: Just thought I'd add in case you didn't know, the scientific name for the Sunshine Peacock is Aulonocara sp. "Stuartgranti Maleri" (Chidunga Rocks)

Thanks!

I didn't disagree with you two. I figured I'd just go ahead and get it anyway since the closest FS to my house couldn't get the real Sunshine Peacock instead of the Golden version,
which I got today. It may not even be a Golden Peacock, it may be an Albino Peacock `cos it has orange reflecting eyes, like bicycle refelctors, but at least it's skin has a little orange
to it with a yellow dorso. I did see some blue, but couldn't capture much of it in this photo. I like it, but I'll still try to find the "real McCoy" in the future.
