hi everyone i just got a breeding pair of texas cichlids and i know they are a breeding pair because they were gaurding babies when i picked them up from my lps. i have one question tho i have a couple caves set up and the male keeps chasing the female to the top and wont let her come down is this a bad thing or will it end after they ajust to there new tank

Thats pretty sick that you got a breeding pair!!!

I would guess it will always go on. GT's do the same.

it all depends on things......do they lip lock dance round eachother fins spread akee....dig pits together and clean rocks together???or is he just getting her out the way<not to good>

I would get a divider, you could end up with a badly injured fish.It seems like their pair might have broken and he is just establishing a territory.

If he is just chasing her away, then the pair might have broken and do what chessy feet said. If they lip lock and dig together then they are just planning on breeding again, thats normal behavior. How long had the fry been hatched in the lfs? If they just hatched, this could be the reason for the break-up as both fish may have become very stressed over being takin away from their babies.

well the store gave the babies to me with the parents but today i got out of the shower and looked at the tank and the female was floating all around the tank and the male was pecking at it and it was dead by the time i saw it the male had ead eaten the eyes out and was pecking at the fins now since i have male texas cichlid by it self in my tank what should i get to pair with it i would like to see it breed but i was a very mean fish to trhe female and it like has already made its tarritory so tonight i just rearranged the tank so he woul not be as aggresive but i will have to just before i put fish tomorow give an idea on what to put in to breed with it or should i just take the dead female and the live male back to the pet store and trade them for some other fish and no its not the water because i had my lps check my water before i bought the fish yesturday and he said everything was good for these fish to live happy not

Please try and use fullstops  .I would take the male back but raise the fry and sell them on, thats just me though. With my texas cichlid he had to be put in a tank all by himself, no fish I tried would mix with him.Just out of curiosity how big was the tank?
