Okay so ever since I put him in his 2.5 gallon tank he seems so much more active and is even working on a bubble nest. His tank sits right next to Angus's 5 gallon bowl so I put a blue background in between them. I often found my new boy doing the "wiggling" bettas do when they flare and stuff like that but he wasn't flaring at all. I figured he was seeing his reflection so I took that out and put a plain white piece of paper behind his tank to block out Angus. He still wiggles all over the place, even when he is not looking into the glass of the tank. He also comes up for air and when he takes a breath he takes a BIG breathe. Like he sticks half of his head out of the water.

There is plenty of oxygen getting to his tank and I do %100 water changes everyday for all of my bettas that are in anything 5 gallons or less. I do water changes every 2 or 3 days in the 2 10 gallons that hold two of my males. He is eating fine and his fins seem to be doing very good.

Is this just weird betta behavior or should I be worried?

Harvey does that same exact thing.
He is seeing his reflection and goes completely mad.
It looks like he's having a seizure or something.
It's kinda scary. Looks like he's tipping his whole body sorta backward and starts wiggling? He doesn't flare right then, and his ventrals go pointing sorta straight out in front of him like he is pointing at something...

I'll try to get a picture of Harvey doing it.
I wouldn't worry about it :)

Yea, he does that all throughout the tank. He kind of wiggles rather than swims, but he can keep his balance and swims perfectly fine.

What about the big breaths of air?

Best I can figure, it's the same as you or I when we get all pumped up about something - you need to take a big ol deep breath to calm down - or just that your heart is pumping so fast that you need to take in more oxygen.

I love all of my boys so much! Each one is so different. Angus is always kind of in his own little world, but is always happy to come up to the glass to see me when I come up to his tank. And he eats ANYTHINg I drop into the tank. Deiter is constantly swimming back and forth in his tank looking for the female that is in her tank next to his. When I cover her bowl up from his view he goes mad trying to find her. He builds quite the bubblenests as well. Cotton Candy is an attention whore. He just wants to be stared at. I was putting on my make-up today and just laying on my bed and Cotton Candy was literally just staring at me and wouldn't take his eyes off me! It was hilarious. Then Pea princess (my tiny girl) is actually building a bubble nest?! At first I thought it was just bubbles that build up in the tank as usual, but now it is getting to a pretty good size. I wonder why she is making one all of a sudden? :dunno:
