Hi all, am a little new to tropical fish keeping, and so the info below may not be as complete as you'd like :( but I will try my best!

Request Help

Tank size: hexagonal, 9" each side, 18" height (210"squared surface area) approx 15 US gal.
pH: ?
ammonia: 0.0
nitrite: 0.0
nitrate: 5
kH: ?
gH: ?
tank temp: 25c

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior):

The fish is a new black molly, purchased today, and didn't notice until I got it back that it has white around it's mouth. It won't keep still long enough for me to take a photo, though. Can't decide if it is furry looking, or just white around it's mouth.

Volume and Frequency of water changes:

approx 15 US Gal, 20% weekly

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: Activated carbon in the filter, and filter sponge. No chemicals other than tap safe.

Tank inhabitants: 2x male molly, 4x female molly, 1x male betta, lots of live plants!

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration):

2x female black mollies, today.

Exposure to chemicals:

None

Digital photo (include if possible):

Won't keep still long enough...

As I said above, I'm not sure that it is cotton-wool like or anything, was just a bit shocked when I saw it. Do black mollies sometimes have some white on them? It's just around her mouth.

I unfortunately do not have a hospital tank just yet, but may be able to get hold of one tomorrow if I need to?

Any advice would be greatfully received!

Many thanks!

Am not being impatient here guys, just adding a thought lol... Mollies are salt-tolerant, right? Are Bettas? And if I were to treat with anti-fungal, would it be recommended to treat the whole tank or just the fish with the symptoms in a separate tank?

Thanks again in advance :)

bettas are NOT salt tolerant....
mollies however are the only fish i know of that can be living in a freshwater tank one week, and be integrated into a saltwater system the next!

but, again, BETTAS ARE NOT SALT TOLERANT lol

lol, right, glad you told me that before I went and got some aquarium salt! Still don't know what to do about my new black molly, though. :(
