Hi all

My Biorb 30 has been up and running for 5 weeks. Luckily my local fish shop is one of the good ones and wouldn't let me buy any fish before doing a fishless cycle and testing the water themselves. I now have 3 male platies - Erik (sunset), Leif (red wagtail) and Nikolai (blue tuxedo). Test.jpg

I'm waiting for the tank to stabilise before I get any new friends for them but I'm looking for advice on some easy to keep, non vicious tank mates. I want an all male tank as I don't have anywhere to put hundreds of babies! I can keep a maximum of 12-17 inches of fish in the tank. Currently my little lot will get to a maximum of 5.91 if ThinkFish are correct.

Thanks for your help in advance
Sarah

I think 12-17 inches would be pushing it a bit. It's 30 litres isn't it?

Looks nice though, what about a few male endlers?

A good rule of thumb for beginners with stocking is 1 inch of small, slim boddied fish to each gallon of water so, 30 litres = 6.5 gallons.
As the platies eventual size is around 2 inches, I'd consider you fully stocked now in all honesty; due to the Biorb's weird shape and poor filtration (sorry, but it's true!) they're not suitable for heavy stocking...

Maybe you could have some shrimp? They'd add very little to your bioload. But I don't know much about shrimp; the Biorb might not be suitable for them. Or you could get a proper tank :p

hey, i have one of these tanks, but a coldwater set up. Maybe a few neons or other tiny tetra's would work! :)

I have a biube and I wouldn't recommend much more fish to be honest, shrimp may bedifficult because of the substrate, which i just removed out of mine and im much happier (replaced bubble tube filter and added sand) maybe just get one more platy and have platies only?
