Hey Y'all!

I just bought some new betta's! My male is purple and red color, and my female is red and peachy/orange color, they're both really pretty! He's checking out the tank right now, and I have a floating plant that he seems to like, do you think they might spawn? When would they do it? Like does she have to be full of eggs first? Or will they just spawn whenever,? I've had my (other) betta's spawn before, but she was really big in the stomach, (swollen with eggs) that's why I'm wondering if they always have to be like that first before they mate... any ideas?

Have you conditioned them ?
have you got a spawning tank set up - what level the water?
Have you got the chimney ready for introducing the female to the male - you cant just chuck them in the same tank together

Have you got all the equiptment you'll need to seperate up to 100 male bettas from 8 weeks old - some from as early as 4 weeks - and keep them all at a stable heat

Dont mean to be negative but please make sure you are prepared for a spawn before spawning them - also make sure you have some homes lined up for what could be 100+ adult bettas - they cannot be sold until they are 3 and half months of age

What tails are the adults as you dont want to be crossing odd tail types unless you are going for certain specialised line breed

Some tail types crossing will result in runty tailed bettas that no one will want so you could end up with having to keep 100+ bettas yourself

Better than I could have said it, pippoodle. Make sure you're prepared.

Umm... I don't wanna sound like a newb, but I don't really care if they breed or not... I kinda just wanted them cuz they look really pretty, and I know you can't have two males together, so I got a male and female,..... please don't get mad or yell at me, like I said, I was just curious if they'd spawn, I'm not doing it on purpose..... :-(

EDIT:
Their tails are the same kind,..

Have you got them sharing the same tank?
Males and females CANNOT share the same tank and need to be kept seperate as they will fight
I wasn't yelling at you just letting you know that spawning is not an easy thing with bettas

Yes, the lady at the pet store told me it would be fine,... is it not? :/

She was lying to you hun
you can have a male on his own or a female on her own no smaller than 3 g tank

Or a group of at least 4-5 females sharing the same tank but no less than 4 and in no smaller than a 10g tank

you either need to return one or the other or divide the tank else you're going to end up with a dead fish

Oh, ok.... I hope they'll let me bring it back, wait, I have another tank, can I put one in my 15 gallon? and leave one in the 20 gallon?

thats fine hun - even better get a nice group of girls if you want for the 20g and divide the 15g in 2 and you could add another male :)
for dividers penn plax are really good and easy to use

Ooh, ok! Thanks a lot! :)
I'll have to ask my dad about the tank though, (as the 15 gallon is his tank)

If not get a breeding trap as a temp solution and look for a cheap second tank - not sure where you're from sdo dont know what sites to recommend for cheap tanks
