Hi all! It's been YEARS since I've had a bettas. I found the uglyist cute betta there is! He was in a bottom tank in a far corner as no one wanted him when everone else was so shiny and colourful. Anyway, I was wondering, what's best to feed him? I've had him on live bloodworms and frozen foods that I feed to my corys and loaches. Also, he is a pale pink with black scales, is this normal or is there actually something wrong with him? I don't know if he was fed right, or just loves blood worms, cause he's been packing away more worms per feeding then any fish I've seen. I actaully doubled the amount so the panda corys could get some (there just in there as its easy to QT them all together, then they will leave and the betta will have the whole tank as his forever home :)

Sorry, I ramble. Simply:

- What is best to feed him?
- Is the black just his colour or is he ill?
- His tail has a bit of red line at the base, but he is really pink and you can see through him, so is it just normal?
- What can I keep him with in a 25ltr tank?
- Can I keep a lady betta with him?
- Is sand ok for him?

the tank has a heater, filter, light, and a plant (its trying hard to stay alive lol)

thanks all :)

Now for piccies :D

thankies :) I didn't think so, but they had a ton of females and a male in a 10 gallon at the fish shop and were selling on 2-3 females and a male to anyone sucker enough to take them, so thought I would ask. No one had nipped fins, but the male looked horrible and raggid.

Aw - he's a sweetie! I'm not sure if his black markings are normal... but maybe after a few days in his own new tank - he'll either lose them - or not (which will be his permanent markings).

Yeah, I don't think it's a good idea to keep a male and female together in a tank unless, you want a fish fry! :hyper: or they'll fight if they don't mate. You can try dividing the tank - but I wouldn't let them swim freely together... -_-

- a mix of pellets, blood worms, and brine shrimp with a cooked unshelled pea every few days is a good mix for them. mine get pellets as thier base with live food as more of a treat.
- i wouldnt worry about the color. afew of mine are like that and they are fine.
- if you can try to get a picture of this line. he could have a bit of septicemia, but its probably nothing. others will be able to help you out better onthis one.
- not much if anything probably afew corys
- do not keep a male betta with any other sort of betta unless you want to breed them. however you can keep females together in a 10 gallon with at the every last 5-6 aslong as its well planted and has hiding places.
- sand is fine for him

as for your betta in general he is absolutly adorable.

Will give the lady bettas a miss then. Don't want to breed them and don't want dead fish either lol! Will see how he goes, would kinda like him to keep the black and pink neo-goth thing going lol. I seem to end up with all of my LFS weird fish :

What sort of pellets would be good for them? I have plenty of frozen brine shrimp that I feed the corys on, is that ok?
Will see if I can get a few pics of him :) Will probably just keep bigger cory fry with him as they grow out then, give him someone to look at lol. Will give the lady bettas a miss too, thought I remembered that you shouldn't keep them together, but the fish shop had loads together and a male, they all looked fine but maybe the picking was so spread out you couldn't tell. The male looked bad though.

Thanks guys :) I think he is cute too, couldn't resist him, especially when asked "you... WANT.. the ugly one? Have you seen the blue one in the tank next to him?" lol
