Hey! I’m not a ‘new’ betta owner, but just bought a fish after a few months to a year of not having one. I let him acclimate for a little over 30 minutes before putting him in the tank. He’s doing just fine- Swimming around and checking everything out, he even ate 1 food pellet (Usually bettas are a bit too shy at first to eat but he was hungry!)
I have a filter (on low so there won’t be too much of a current) a heater, a little stone decoration, a faux plant and some small moss balls. The only thing that is bothering me is that he is tending to stay at the top of the tank? He’s swimming quite well so it shouldn’t be a issue with his swim bladder. Could it not be oxygenated enough? The filter and heater have been running for a day already, but are there any adjustments I could make? He’s doing really well otherwise- I’ve just never had a betta that likes to linger at the surface!

Bettas typically breath atmospheric air. As long as he is acting normal and not constantly going to the surface to gulp for air, then you should not worry about it.

Test resuts? And a photo please.

can you post a picture showing the entire tank, and a picture of the fish?
can you post a short video showing the fish swimming?
