New Baby Oscar Hiding/stressed? *updated Pg.2 W/ Pics*

trust me i would have had pics right away if it were possible. :(

he does swim around and wiggle all over the place now.... except has anyone ever witnessed this behaviour:
HE IS TERRIFIED OF ME!
He will swim all over the place as of late last night. I can observe him. But if he even sees my hand move from across the room, he acts like he's been shot. Lol, he goes limp and backs away quickly to his hiding spot. This happens EVERY single time he sees me. I can't even feed him he is so skitzy.

Suggestions?

put some tiger barbs in there a group of 6 and maybe 6 giant danios

With Oscars......

You the same dude who said Kribensis are good tank mates for Piranhas in another thread? lol
 haha

i live next to golf course and there trying to get all the practice they can before they join up......

hehe it was for them to play with, but they got to boistorus with it, throwing it into the front screen and i was like
lol. i thought ur bichir looked more like the golf club

give him time mate should be ok?
whats temp of tank? mines set at 26c :good:
yes when i had my two they would wiggle n wiggle all the time, go crazy at feeding time, now there like two dogs waiting for a meal, wiggling and waggling, if i even walk into the room, its like an sprint up and down the tank,,,crazy but fun to watch,,,,when my other half walks in they just float there and stare at her

its so funny how they react to different people. my oscar will only eat whole prawns and frozen peas when i feed him, but if my girlfriend comes over he'll only eat cichlid sticks. give it time. every oscar is fascinated with people.

Oscars are great. My daughter (3years old) is quite taken with feeding mine. At first he wouldn't eat unless I fed him but now he gets excited when he sees her! As for tiger barbs and danios as dithers? My Giant danios disappeared one by one..........

So I was talking to a couple guys at my LFS that are reliable and have kept a few O's in their lifetime. I explained the behaviour and got the same response..... That they snap out of it. I was really worried.

But It's been a few days since I got the O and i was ready for a tankmate (even tho he was still hiding and terrified when he saw me). What I really hadn't heard as a recommended tank m8 before was a Blood Parrot. I made sure that if there were problems, I could bring the guy back..... and.... sprung for the Blood Parrot.

Since this guy has been in the tank he's been nothing but happy and wiggly. The O hid a bit.... then got curious and joined the fun . Over the last few hours he's stopped his sulking. I took some advice I read on other forums as well that involved moving in front of the tank quite a bit while feeding him bloodworms (which HE IS OBSESSED WITH). Both guys are just wiggling up and down and playing follow the leader. The oscar (yet to be named, suggestions welcome) has gone form terrified to wiggling all over the place with the introduction of the parrot and quite a few blood worms

Not a surprise that they are getting along, as they are both young. I'll keep an eye on them as they progress. And yes yes i know 75gal for 1 oscar. Going to go for 7x turnover and very frequent water changes. :)

Thx for all the help guys.

lol, thats great news,do keep and eye on them tho, but i reckon hes gonna turn out to be great fun :) i have spotted another one at my lfs, a white one, and im so tempted to get rid of my communinty tank so that i can have it, maybe ill pop back in a few days and see if hes still there, hes beautiful, and theres no one to talk me out of it :)

keep us updated when you can :)

I can't even begin to explain how excited I am now that my O is all over the tank and starting to beg. :D He's still a bit shy and when he hides, the blood parrot usually goes searching around the tank for him and literally brings him out of his hiding place  .

Too much fun.

Pics as promised. The Oscar for some reason braved the camera tonight. he's still jumpy.

I wish the BP was a bit bigger... we'll see how it works.

Big Thanks to all that helped me from the planning stages... to the second planning stages.... and the initial setup with the Oscar. Much appreciated.

Thanks :)

unfortunately (and what i feared) the Ghost Knife's tail just about became Oscar food today. Had to take the poor guy back to the pet store today. Shame cuz he was so original and seemed to be getting along fine. I guess that is an oscar for you.

Finally named both of the guys in the tank tho.

Timone and Pumba. The oscar is obviously Pumba if you are familiar with the cartoon :p . These guys make me laugh every time I see them. Pumba sulks 50% of the time when I open the hood to feed him. He's extra jumpy after i had to smack him in the head with the net so he would let go of the BGK.
