To heck with my carefully laid stocking plans! The littlest and cutest baby gourami came up to me at the glass at Petco and asked me to take her (at least I think and hope it's a girl) home.

I don't know how to tell the age of a fish, but this one is for sure just a baby. There were 2 in the tank and the other looked like a boy, a little longer and thinner than "her", but I know it is difficult to tell when they are young.

Anyway, she is swimming with the phantoms in the 55g and eating well. She is just adorable with her little baby gourami face. I never knew baby fish could be cute.

Indeed, she is now in a bucket owing to getting stuck not once but twice on the intake filter in the big tank. You can read the whole story in the Emergency section. I hope she is okay. I feel like a bad mom.

If she makes it through this ordeal, I'll post a pic.

My little Opal was dead when I got up this morning.

I don't know what, if anything, I could have done to save her. She was just so little and had had so many bad things happen to her already. Poor little fish. RIP, Opal.
