What is the best possible way of up-bringing new baby platie?

When should u feed them flake foods?

This is the second time my platie has bred, 1st time they bred and I went on holiday for 2 weeks then came back and they all dead. I think cos they did not have the right food

liquifry is a good prepared first food, a lot of people recommend baby brine shrimp or infusoria, and they should take high quality flake food from pretty much the first feed, as long as it's ground to a very fine powder.
also, if you lightly heat a pea and shell it, you can crush it to a paste in the tank that is so fine your bubs can eat it. This is normally a treatment for constipation, so while it won't hurt your fry, it is not a staple food. You can also hard boil an egg, take the yolk (don't use the white) of the cooked egg and mash it with some hot water. This makes a very good high protein food that is fine enough for newborns. Remember you only need to feed a tiny, tiny amount at a time, several times a day, and you need to keep your water incredibly clean.....water changes once daily at least ( about 10% each time).
hope this helps, congrats on your new bubbies!

I agree, Liquifry is very good -- just be careful how much you add to the tank (depending on tank size) because it is easy to overfeed with that stuff! There's also a food for baby fish -- I can't remember the name of it now but it comes in a green packet, and it's basically flake food ground up super-fine into almost a dust. I like that better than the liquid just because I always seem to put too many drops of the liquid food in & make a mess.

Honestly, I've never had trouble with raising platy or endler fry on anything but normal tropical flake foods -- I just crumble it up really fine between my fingers before dropping it in the tank. Soon you'll have more fry than what you know what to do with! :)

cool thnx, i use that Liquifry 3-4 times a day to feed my fish

congrats on your fry, the flake should be like dust, put it in a little bag and rub it into a powder then add a tiny little amount per feed

xXx

wow thanks for that

I been giving them loads today (1st time) and when should they be able to have the flake foods? and how long does it take them to grow to normal size?
