New At Fishing

yes koi can conform to the size of their home
Yes- to an extent. It doesn't mean it will stop growing at, say, a 2" fish which has plenty of room. It will grow until it physically cannot move in the tank. Which, obviously, is incredibly cruel. And these guys can grow pretty quickly. Plus, koi could produce waste for England- apart from space issues, it's generally reccomended to keep koi in a 1000g+ pond because they come with hefty filtration. Add on to that that koi have a lifespan as long as or longer than a human (there are people in Japan who claim to have 200 year old koi), you realise how much you are cutting their life down by killing them in this way. People always say it's a life cut so short when a child at 5,6 or whatever years old dies- so what does that say when people kill goldfish and koi through neglect at only a few months old?

Even small Koi need a tank of at least 50 gallons, and adult Koi should have a 300+ gallon tank, or preferably, a pond.

You really should have planned first before buying these magnificent fish :( I don't mean to be hard on you, but it is very true...

Try to get them into a larger tank soon. Don't worry about cycling it; Koi can take it. The main point is to get them into a much bigger tank as soon as possible.

Koi are ugly IMHO.

u wanna slap ? lol

any way i second pretty much everything that has been sed before me. Koi grow very fast compared to say guppies or w.e, and need very good filtration... my 2000g pond has a 4 cubic foot filter

you really need a bigger tank v soon. infact, screw ur shopping n what not, save for a tank :good:

good luck :/

Taking them back to the shop would be the best option. Either that or finding someone who can provide the care these fish need.
This thread might be some sort of consolation for you.

You have endless possibilities of fish to put in a 10G. In fact, Im desperate to set up a 10/15Gal tank to house some shelldwellers. Magical! B)
