It's a 55 gallon, but I have a few "territories" of caves for my apistos to breed, and I'd like to use the grass as a bit of a cover for the fry as they forage for food. I guess I was thinking of more like a row of grass instead of a block of grass.

Yea, I think they come in like rows. Like the bottom is made with plastic bars, I am sure you could cut at each bar and make nice little rows of grass. My 1 inch molly fry love to hide in the grass and look for food.
