New Aquarist Needs Help

It would be the only fish (Betta) i'd keep in there though, i wouldn't be adding anything else, maybe some dwarf cory's.

Ok, thanks but would dwarf cory's and Galaxy Rasbora be ok together. How about platy's aswell or not?

Have bought fluval edge and to save too much typing its been cycled with java fern and hornwort and is ready for some fish. (It is 23litre and set at 25c) I'm looking to end up with: (I'm not going to add all at the same time)
1x Dwarf gourami
6x Galaxy Rasbora
2x Otto / Oto Cat Fish
Would love to hear from with any problems or changes you think are needed before I go ahead.
Any ideas which fish to put in first?

Perhaps if we did focus on the cycling history of your tank for a minute then a stocking list may be more forth coming.
I am going to do a fishless cycle once I have purchased the tank. I just want ideas for stocking as explained above. If a betta splenda isn't suitable can you actually give me a fish that would be happy without any of its own kind.
These are the only fish hagen advise as being "suitable" White Cloud Mountain Minnows (cold water), Betta Splendens (need lots of space to 'zoom'), Barbs, Danios, small Goldfish (cold water and grow too big and very dirty), Crystal Red Shrimps, Snails. But on further research and from what your saying on here only the shrimps and snails are suitable. How can they have it soooooooo wrong?

Dont want to sound as though I'm a 'party pooper' as such ... but do you have the tank or do you NOT have the tank? Has it really been cycled, I'm asking because if it had then you would of had plenty of time to research fish, and find out which ones were suitable. I'm just not feeling at all confident about this, sorry. Just dont want to see you purchase certain types of fish, and then for you to turn around and say 'I need help, I'm in a fish-in cycle what do I do'?

His initial question is just purely hypothetical.

He's basically setting the scene.

"I've bought the Fluval Edge, it's cycled, now what fish are suitable"

I think he's just confused people a little as he didn't want to have to type out all about doing a fish-less cycle & stuff.

So we can take it he's buying a Fluval Edge, but wants to know what stock he can put in it.

I hear what your saying. I was all set to buy the fluval edge but after some research I found people where struggling to stock them. I don't want to buy the tank and spend loads of time (weeks) cycling it to find I have nothing to stock it with. I thought to get rid of cycleing feeds, I would say I'd already cycled. I have no intension of fish cycling, it sounds too risky for the fishes health. I INTEND TO DO A FISHLESS CYCLE. :good:

You got it! :good:

I'd personally say maybe 2 male platies and a group of galaxy rasboras or one male betta and some dwarf cories.

Thank you. Both situations sound ideal for what I want, but i have to ask
Would 2 male platies 6x galaxy rasoboras and maybe 4 dwarf cories be ok or am I over stocking the tank?

It would work, but would not be the best environment for the platys (need more space), not Corys (who school).

Thank you everyone. Am I right in thinking that a betta splenden and a group of galaxy rasbora in the same tank is a bad idea? :fun:

I've got a far far better idea for you! Dont get this tank, get something a little more sensible and you can stock far more interesting fish in greater numbers. This tank isnt any good for more than half a dozen tiny fish, shrimp, snails or a Betta  and i would even question putting a betta in it

I must say, if you can find another tank which meets your finances well and something that you'd like to have, i'd also say get something else more practical, it might save you a few possible headaches.

But, if you've got your heart set on it, good luck with it all :good:
