hi, my tank has been running for 5 days now and currantly has no fish in. we are thinking of having the followng fish, can peaple please say what they think of this. we have been to a number of fish supliers and some are saying it will be fine and some saying it wont. we would really like your thoughts on these fish.

3 albino barbs
3 tiger barbs
5 neons
2 dwarf gurami
2 sailfish mollys
and possible a larger yellow gurami

just to let you all know it is an 80 litre tank.

i have also just noticed a white goo on the rubber suction cups of my heater, everything in my tank is new and rinsed before going in the tank. my water tests are ok any ideas what this could be?

Many people have the same exact problem. Its not actually a problem actually. It just happens when rubber stays in the water for a period of time. :)

I'm not sure what exactly what it is, but it is certainly not harmless.

I would not keep boisterous tiger barbs together with a potentially sensitive fish like the dwarf gourami. In fact, I'd be inclined to ditch the dwarf gouramis altogether (often sickly and temperamentally dodgy- either bullies or easily intimidated). If you like gouramis, then a thick-lipped or banded gourami would be a better option- less prone to disease and less temeramental.

Mollies need hard alkaline water- which is the opposite of what neons like. Also sailfins need a fair bit of space.

I'd have a look at your water parameters first to see if you are running a soft/acid water or a hard/alkaline water tank.

If hard/alkaline, livebearers are good, but platies or endlers easier to accommodate than sailfins.

If soft water then tetras and cory catfish are good suggestions, maybe with one banded gourami as your centrepiece fish.

Or you could go for a tiger barb species tank.

thanks for advice! any one else have any thoughts on our choice of fish? we are getting a lot of diferent advice and not sure what to go for.

Hi, I have an aqua one ufo 550 on order, is it definitely 80 litres capacity - the uk distributor swears it's 100 litres but most of t'internet has 78 litres as the capacity? Thanks. PS I've didn't have much luck with dwarf gouramis either, only lasted a month or so...
