Angelfish are on second page.

The tank has finally finished cycling! I put my pleco in and he loooves his bigger tank! he went from a 15 gallon to this 37gallon lol.
I cant decide what kind of fish I want to go with the tank tho. I've been thinking about Angel fish or Dwarf gourami's ....but someone said that the dwarf gouramis have a disease or something from poor breeding? I'd like to know more about that if anyone knows. Because I really love the gourami's and i want to get more. I really want an Oscar....but they grow to big =\

I'm not completley done decorating it yet. This is just a pic to show you the size of sharkbait really.

This topic touches on the Dwarf Gouramis most serious possible health problem(Dwarf Gourami IridoVirus);
http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=206273

There's also the issue of poor breeding and the increased vulnerability to bacterial illnesses that many Dwarf Gourami suffer as a result.
You can always look into different species of gourami, i think i listed similar sized Gourami on the other post, if not just ask.
Nice tank anyhow :good:

hmmmm.... Is this something that just randomly develops? Im thinking about getting gourami's and putting them in one of my other tank temporarily, and keeping an eye on them. Let them stay in there for a couple weeks, and if no signs of DGIV I'll put them in my main tank??

Or maybe just forget about the grouami's all together. And get Oscars? I've heard they'll grow to the size that they feel comfortable in, in that tank.

And I reallly want some aquatic frogs (not if there are Oscars in the tank though)...they are sooooo cute!! Im a litte afraid my pleco might eat them tho... His mouth is definatley big enough to swallow one... Then again there are PLENTY of places for them to hide that Shakbate cant find them at.

I also really like those snake looking things....I dont know what they're called. But ive had them once before. One species was about an inch long, orange with black stripes, and it liked to burrow under the gravel. I've seen another one, it's like silver and a little bigger. If anyone knows what im talking about, what do you think of them in the tank?

ive got a thing for "different" fish type things...

i want one of those crab thing, but they would eat my frogs, and attack my fish....

grr i cant decide! >.< gimmie some ideas and some pics of some fish you guys think I should get.

I think you're thinking of khulie loaches. and yep, they would be nice in a tank that size, althoguh you would hardly ever see them. You could have guppies, platies, and swordtails.

I thought that was just a myth that fish will only grow to a size that the tank they're in allows, I thought fish just keep growing either untill fully grown or until they die?

Yes is it a myth a 37 gallon is too small for an oscar im afraid, not only wouldnt it be able to turn around properly when fully grown but they are massive waste producers and 37 gallons wouldnt be sufficient to dillute the waste, you have lots of options though, you could maybe have a larger gourami than a dwarf in there as its 37 gallons, look at the fish index section of the forum under labyrinth for some ideas, or you could get a small group of young angels and wait for them to pair up then keep a pair and take the others back, or you could have things like dwarf cichlids, i personally have some dwarf cockatoo cichlids and find them to be fascinating, youve got many options , you just need to keep researching and even then you will get some fish and then discover some you like even more.

PS whats the dimensions of the tank?

I dunno i think it might be true. I had my pleco in a 10 gallon at first, until he got cramped looking...then i moved him to the 15 gallon, and he got bigger, bu then stopped growing. Now that I've got him in the bigger tank he might get bigger. But then again..my friend had a pleco that she had for YEARS in a 10 gallon, and it got to be about a foot long! >.< it was so crammed in that little tank....it finally died....okay i think im gonna get a rainbow .....something....cant remember the name..starts with a b... they're the ones that change colors.

its not a myth and it seriously damages the fish and shortens there life span. not a good idea.

tank looks good tho m8 and rainbows are a good choice! i love the 2 i have in my community. think the ones you mean are bosemani (probably didnt spell that quite right).

HAHA YEA!!! Bosemani rainbows!

Sorry, it is a myth. Fish will continue to grow regardless of the size of their tank. Normally, they will not reach full size, i grant you that, but that is because they usually die first, not because the size of the tank dictates the size they will grow to.

Unfortunately, it is a myth which is too commonly believed.

Still, not a good idea to have oscars. Sorry.

Do not go with Bosemani rainbows for that tank, you should get preacox aka dwarf neon rainbowfish, much better choice for that aquarium.

Okay I wont get Oscars then, seeing as my tank wont be big enough. :good:
