Hello everyone,

Im pretty new to this hobby, got my first tank for xmas last year.
I have learned a lot over the past few weeks about the water condition, setting up tank etc.
But now from what ive read on the information about pregnant guppy's i might think mine is pregnant.
But im not totally sure about this, and just in case I already got a second tank set up if she might is pregnant, cause I don't want to keep her with the others.

Can someone tell me if she really is pregnant and if so, how long would it be ish before she will give birth.

Sorry for the blurry pictures i did my best to take some.

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

What other fish are in the tank?

If you only have guppies then add lots of plants and she will give birth when she is ready to do so. The adult guppies don't normally eat the young unless they are hungry or stressed. If you have lots of plants it gives the mother somewhere to hide during labour and gives the babies somewhere to hide after they are born.

Female livebearers (guppies, laties, swordtails, mollies) are just about always pregnant when you get them from the shop. Female livebearers can carry up to 6 sperm packets from breeding with males and they use 1 sperm packet per batch of eggs. They carry the eggs and developing babies for about 1 month before giving birth to baby fish called fry. Because the females carry sperm packets in their body, they can produce young every month for up to 6 months without any males being present.

Do not move or handle the female if she is pregnant because the stress of being lifted out of water can cause them to go into labour prematurely and the babies die. If you have to move a pregnant fish, carefully catch her in a fish net but keep her in the water. Get a plastic container and put it in the tank and scoop up the female in the net so she remains in the water at all times. Then move her to another tank. But you shouldn't need to move her. Just add lots of plants.

Water Sprite (Ceratopteris thalictroides/ cornuta) is the best plant for livebearers. It can float on the surface or be planted in the substrate.
