Hello All,

Just purchased a Albino Bristlenose catfish and she's done a good job of cleaning up the Algae in my Tank (70ltr Juwel Rekord).

So I have purchase some Algae Wafers (Tetra Fin) to supplement her diet. But my question is......

What is the best way to use them, as the instructions on the back of the package are confusing either

Drop 1 in and leave it in the tank until it has been fully eaten ? which may take a few days with only having 1 small catfish.

or

Drop 1 in leave in for an amount of time (eg 1 hr) then take it out.

Any advise would be welcome.

PS ...She is a lovely fish and am really glad i went for the Albino Bristlenose (even though she's a poo'er.....Vacuum at the ready)

If she's only little, why not break the wafer in half for her? That's what I do for my juvies. And alternate with vegetable foods, like small piece of courgette or parboiled carrot or peas or sprouts- or whatever you're having really.

So say I break 1 in half, do you suggest that i leave it in the tank until finished or take out after a period eg 1 hour?

1 further question....How many do you suggest that I put in a week ? do u think 1/2 per week is enough ?

Thanx in advance

I would think 1 hour is too short, she may be too shy to come forward in this time, or may prefer the wafer to dissolve a bit before she tucks in. I would say put it in in the evening and leave it overnight (and chances are there won't be anything to clear up in the morning). My bristlies are probably far too cosseted but I feed them every other day. Sometimes every day.

Thanxs...I can see mine gettin spoilt too

When I first had my albino bristlenose he was very shy so after 'lights out' I'd drop an algae wafer or two (break one in half if yours is really small) near the plant where he was hiding and after a while he'd come out and find it (hopefully before all my other greedy guzzlers did!) You'll probably find there's no need to take the algae wafer out again as it will get eaten overnight. Some wafers are designed not to dissolve too quickly so that algae eaters can browse on them as they would in the wild.
