For about 7 or 8 months now Ive had a Jack Dempsey who lived alone in a 55 gallon tank. On saturday his tank was rearranged and I decided he could use a buddy or two. I stopped by my LFS to pick up some pellets and saw they had a new shipment arrive. After staring at the tanks I went ahead and bit the bullet so to speak. I chose the Texas Cichlid first (Obviously I named him Tex). The biggest one they had wich is only 3 inches roughly. While he was being bagged I decided on a Green Terror too. This guy is the smallest being 2 inches.....Named him Green Tiny or just Tiny for short. Well the two newbies were climatized and added to their new home. I was worried about aggression so I sat and watched. It seems as though my 7 inch Boris the JD has taken over as a guardian to the 2 inch GT. Boris and Tex are getting along ok just a little flexing so to speak feeling each other out. Its awesome the way Boris will not let Tex any where near Tiny. Could it be some type of parental instinc kicking in? Its just amazing since Boris was bought as a 1 incher and raised all by himself. Never having contact with another fish. Will try to post some pics of the newbies when I can.

what size tank are they in? should be okay if large enough tank, they get quite large 6" to 12" even heard of texas growing to 14" but that was in a huge room tank at a zoo :hey: so jealus!!!

You're ok for now, but sooner or later you're going to need to upgrade tanks if you want to keep them all. A 55 gallon is enough for one adult Texas or one GT. You'll see their behavior change drastically as they grow and mature.

as it says above, sorry should of read it prop, my bad :*)

believe a pair of one of them may be okay...
atleast green terrors...
pos jd...
unlikely texas(but?)...

I have a empty 70g in storage for when the time comes to move them. I knew they will get very large and need rehoused eventually. I never buy a fish without doing a little research before hand. If it comes down to it Im prepared to house each in a tank of their own. Right now everyone is still small and getting along just fine. Tex can be a tad pugnatious at times though. Tiny Terror has an appetite that just doesnt stop. My JD just goes about his business now like the other two arent even there.
