I just got a new mickey mouse platy!
She's a female, quite a character. Chases the bigger fish away! She's not scared of anything, explores the whole tank, even the hiding spots that the other fish never use. Will get another male and female soon, but I'm looking to breed mickey mouses and the store only had one.
Had a couple of questions:
1 The store keeps all platys together (unlike the guppies) I didn't take a close look, but I believe males where there as well. None of the fish looked pregnant though. I'm positive she's a female, but she doesn't even have a gravid spot. Is this normal?

2 Can I breed mickey mouse platys and get mickey mouse fry?

3 I will post pics up in a couple of days, but she is a light pinkish/white color, yellowish tail, looks like someone flicked red paint on her dorsal fin, with pink "cheeks". Is this a specific color variety?

That's pretty much it!

Thanks,

Awww ive seen pics of them and they look gorgeous!! It looks like a Disney fan has taken a felt pen to them

tahs cool news
here a pic of mine so you can compare so you can be sure its a female
this is a pic of when she was pregnant as you can see she didnt have a gravid spot, platties dont in general but when they are in the late stages you can see the fry in them if they are a light colour

yep, they look adorable , interesting little things... but she is quite unique, never seen a color pattern like hers!

the other guppies (even the females) keep nipping at her tail. Is this normal? Are they just getting used to her?

hey thats good news for you....guppies that are ready to drop will start to bully the other fish if they get too close. dont worry she will get the message to stay clear until the fry are dropped. gups and platy live great together, both very placid and good company for eachother

They are the ones that get near. She is looking at her reflection and they start to nip at her. but I guess that's true because only one female (the prgnant one) nips at her, not the young one or the male.
P.S.
I should mention that her name is Minnie

Keep on eye on the nipping. If it continues, separate out the Platy for a while. Pregnant fish get nippy as they want their space before birthing.

Our digital camera is broken so I had to buy one of those cheap cameras...
will develop the pics tomorrow and get them on here. My mom says she's extremely fat, ut I'll look at a pic in google that looks like her.

Closest pic I could find was this

LoL. I have a silver colored Mickey Mouse platy named, Minnie, also :) I also have a yellow/orange Mickey Mouse, named Snoopy...funny story..I said to my daughter, "Hey, Skylar, do you want to name this Mickey Mouse fish?" She said to me, "NO! I don't like MIckey Mouse, I only like Snoopy!" LOL...so the fish is Snoopy. Anyhow..can't wait to see a pic of your fish. They are really cute.
