Hey guys,

I have a 55gallon tank ready for me to use, i have no filters no gravel no nothing yet. WHat do you guys think i should go for???
Any advice or ideas would be nice :hey:

If it were me I would do an sfrican cichlid tank, sand bottom, ton of rock work, emperor 400, or a magnum 350 as filtration, and all the basics, heater, etc.

I've got a cichlid tank before, they grow to quick and require alot of room... What else guys?
Thanks for the advise cal.

Hi Sunny.C :)

I see that your other tank is planted. Will you want this one to be too?

Hmmm i don't mind really... Just after someting that will look nice and will have more than 5 fish... Maybe a community half planted???? or go plain cold fish???? i dunno what do you guys think?

55 gal is perfect for Mbuna, which are better kept slightly overstocked so you could have around 15 fish depending on the species. They are extremely colourful, have bags of personality, don't grow too big and make for 1 spectacular tank. :)

A Tank Full ot Tetras is awesome.
Check out my Tank in the Members Area. (DEC Pics)

I think i might go for a community tank, i really want to go for a planted tank but finding the right lighting in australia is pretty hard :/ WHat kind of community fish you guys think i should go for in a 55g and what do you guys think about doing planted?

If I were you, I would box it up, and send it to me lol, jk :p .

I say save some money and get it running with sand bottom, heavily planted, with you're own liking of fish. A cichlid tank would be nice, but I see you dont want that, so maybe some livebearers (Platys), a school of tetras, school of corys, and maybe some type of cyprinid (zebra danio or Tiger barb?). IDK, that's what I say.

You could make it a angelfish species tank with 1 bristle nose pleco with tan gravel and loads of plants, for filtration I will recommend what I use for all my tanks a whisper power filter.

maybe a shell dwellers tank, or if you want to try something a little different maybe go brackish. You can get puffers, mollies, glassfish, tons of different gobies and a lot of other stuff. the only thing with brackish is that their plants are limited because many of them wont do good in any sg over 1.005, or if you wanty something really sharp try a discus tank

Hi Sunny.C :)

I've always liked a nice peaceful community tank. A 55 gallon is big enough to do a nice one too!

If you didn't plant it too heavily, I'd suggest a school of corys, some kind of tetra, maybe a few colorful platys, a few kuhli loaches, a pair of dwarf gouramis. Then add some more unusual fish such as glass catfish, which will spend a lot of time among the plants, and/or some otos.

If you stick to some of the smaller species, such as I mentioned, you could have a great variety of shapes and colors as well as fish that occupy all the different levels of the tank. :D

My second idea I would do would be an awesoem loach tank. Just just a species of a loach that will fit in your tank nicly, and get a ton of them, enough to be stcoked ofcourse. You'll probaly want something up too, black tetra is pretty sweet, a school of them looks cool.

True but if they are anything like mine which I bet they are as they are all the same they will hide all the time unless you have a ton of them in there like 20-25 of them.

I guess it depends on the tank, if their comfortable with the tank, they will be out, and it doesnt take that many.
