Hi, someone is giving me a 55g tank, now I have to decide what to do with it.....?

I thought about salt water, added up the price, and came to my senses...

Now the question is what freshwater setup?

I have a 55g freshwater community tank and I want to do something different with this 55g.

1) I could do a "rocky cichlid tank"

2) Planted angel tank

3) any other cool ideas? I would like a "different" tank without any fish that can do me harm ;)

Cheers

Maybe a Ghost Knife? They're pretty cool.
I'm not an expert on them, and I don't know of the tankmates, but I know you can keep 1 in a 50 gallon tank - so one should fit into a 55G.

Wow they are different! I read they are nocturnal, do they hide all the time in a bright tank?

Tiger Barb tank.. only tigers and make it to their natural habitat.

I just love tiger barbs!

cichlid tanks can also be very fascinating

Black Ghost Knifefish are Nocturnal blind predators they are somewhat aggressive Im no expert either but from what I heard they are Ok

If the water is hard, I would make it a species tank for Ameca splendens (butterfly goodeids). Actaully, you might be able to fit in a few shelldwellers at the bottom as well.

If soft, I'd get the angels- and some unusual and pretty small plecs, or whiptails.

thats pretty vague as theres a few and they all reach a different size.

a black ghost knife grows way too big for a 55G. thy reach 20"

pretty sure the other knife fish get pretty big too.

personally id go heavily planted with a pair of discus, large school of cardinals and about 8 corys.
