I know this is a very basic question on here but i'm more curious to what people will suggest in here for fish, i was thinking of eventually getting ( when finished cycling ) a shoal of 6-8 cardinal or neon tetras, and maybe a couple other little guys who would enjoy their company, also i have a chinese algae eater in a 5g tank he's all alone, i can't wait to get him out of their because it is probably too small for him once he's grows a bit, he's only a month old. I just set up my 29g last night, and today it read at 7.6ph so i added some ph decreaser ( haven't checked today) and the ammonia looks closest to .25ppm on the card chart. i haven't done any water changes yet since it's only on its 2nd day. also wondering what someone can suggest me to do use for water changes on my 29g. hope this post is easy to read. thanks in advance.one more thing, i forgot to mention whatever other fish i get was hoping they wouldn't grow too big for a 29g tank

Cardinals should be fine. You algae eater really needs to be ID'd before I can say whether it's suitable for that tank. For example, Common Plecos and Chinese Algae eaters are often bought to help with an algae problem without poeple knowing that they can reach sizes of 8" or ever more for the plec. Don't keep adding the pH decreaser. Complete waste of time as it will not remain stable for any length of time. Stability of water conditions is the key rather than creating the perfect water conditions stated for your particular fish. The vast majority of fish will cope with conditions way off of what the normally have in the wild.

Before you even think about adding any fish, please fishless cycle your tank as per "add & wait" instructinos from link in my sig. Main advantages being that no fish are damaged in the process and you can fully stock your tank as soon as you finish.

. Here he is

is that chinese algae eater??? I have one of them and was sold him as a 'golden loach' told he wont grow more than 2 1/2 inches but havn't been able to find anything on t'internet about him!! oooh - bad fish shop - lying to me!

Looks like a Golden Chinese Algae eater to me.

Reaches around 6"+ in size and get more aggresive as they get older. Certainly not suitable for the peaceful community tank. They also eat plants and burrow / root around all the time so you may be limited planting wise to species tied to wood and rocks. Think very carefully about future tank mates as more peaceful varieties may not cope well with the aggression and harrasment associated with the CAE.

Thank you for your answers and sorry for the low quality pic I had to take it with my cell

blackberry is not canadian. Cell phone is canadian. A blackberry is like computer/cell/calculator/everything lol. I have a cell phone and a blackberry. They are totally different things.

I have another question now. U read in the fishless cycle thread that mid 80s to 90 is a good temp to cycle at. The problem with that for me is that the 200 watt heater my aquariam came with only has 2 settings. Medium setting 76f and 82f so I can't achieve a higher temp. I do have a 50 watt heater that can reach 89f so my question is can I use my underpowered heater made for a 10g in my 29g?thanks in advance and do everyone who's already contributed in this thread.

. The blackberry was created by a Canadian that is why I called it Canadian

I would stick with the heater that's the appropriate size. Putting a heater that's too small in and running it "hot" so to speak could cause it to short and that would be bad IMO.
Stickwise, my suggestions: 1-2 gourami's (I esp. like the dwarf varieties)
a school of at least 6 tetras (the carnials would be very pretty)
4 Corydoras cats
3-4 Otocinclus stay small and continue to eat algae so I would go with these
A smaller species of pleco and prob just one (I have a rubber pleco)
Lastly wither a school of danios or a couple of apistos or rams (they stay towards the middle to bottom so shouldn't bother the gouramis)

bloody bloody bloody bloody BLOODY lfs!!!!
GRR ... was really beginning to think I'd got through all the newbie mistakes bit! AND they were trying to convince me at the weekend that my 'golden loach' needed more company of his own kind!
:(
