Hey everyone just registered today saw all the nice help and advice people give and was looking for some myself. I have a list of fish that im interested in and I think most of them get along. Ill list all the fish and if you could just make a list of you think would work that would be awesome! Im also looking to make sure they have the right amount of each kind so they school if need be. so here it is.

Tiger Barbs
Green Tiger Barbs
Black or white Mollies
Dwarf Neon Rainbow
Either a Blue Phantom pleco or Albino Gold Bush pleco
Rosy Barb
Black Ruby Barb
Dwaf Gouramis
Kissing Gourami
Peacock Gudeon
Cardinals
German Blue Ram
Moonlight gourami
paradise fish
Serpae tetra
Black Tetra

Well all opinions are welcomed and if you have fish to add yourself GREAT! Thanks!

I'm not an expert, but I don't think so.

Tiger barbs and serpae tetras can be nippers... I'm sure an expert will be along shortly. :good:

thanks man. Hmmm I like the barbs cuz there so active. I like all these fish so im trying to see how many of them will get along. thank again

Wow lol 180 Gallons? Did you mean litres by any chance? What dimensions is this tank?

I mean it would be some 'community tank' with that lot, the tiger barbs mentioned are aggressive, i would recommend you to simply google each fish. For example mollies prefer higher ph 7.5/8 preferably brackish where as neon / cardinal tetras lower ph 6-7 soft water...

Good luck with your research

I know exactly what you are saying about the tigers... I love them too, but they are just too aggressive for my community tank. Someone mentioned five banded barbs to me though. They are harder to find, but they are a much better community option, and very similar to the tigers.

Well I have done exactly that researched all the fish I named. I hear a lot of people say if you keep tigers that u wil be ok. Yes I meant 180 gallons I think it will be a great comnity tank. I used to have a 60 over 4 yrs ago had tugers with mollies and they were good. But I dont know if it was luck. Dimensions are 6 ft long 2 ft high and 2 ft wide. Im really interested in getting groups that would school together and other options then what i have? thanks

Personally i think it could look fantastic with schooling fish but on the other hand i feel they may look a bit lost, iean you would need to put some serious quantities in a tank tjat size, but like i said if done properly could look really cool...

Also in terms of aggresion and bullying, in a tank that size it diminishes slightly as the fish can keep to themselves.

Have you thought of any centre piece fish? Discus maybe, or Angels.. Obviously this depends on the other stocking.

Man, its even giving me a headache with the possibilities lol

With a tank that size you can get away with a lot of things, but i personally would make a rule such that, if you want barbs, get barbs and forget tetras, if you want tetras, get them and forget barbs. :)

Yeah schools are cool to watch. Well the fish i like I like i hear angels get bothered all the time. Discus i thought they were aggressive? to the smaller fish? I have thought about making the green barbs my main fish i love the color are they just #16##### agresive as the normal tiger barb?

I like the barbs better. but would like a school of 12 cardinals work? and what about the gouramis? do they get along with the barbs?

I think the first thing you need to do is figure out your favourite! Then base your stocking around your favourite fishes

I dont think green barbs are as aggressive but i don;t know from personal experience, I have had no probs with Angels and Discus work well with huge schoals of cardinals...

Yeah my favorites so far are the green barbs and tiger barbs love how they school. I also like the rainbows and gouramis. Im thinking they all may work together but not quite sure

Sometimes its worth a try, given the tank size and providing enough 'cover' you cant really go wrong. Just monitor them and if it doesn't work, then it doesn't work...

The only fish I have so far are 3 Tiger Barbs and 3 Green Barbs as I am waiting for my tank to fully cycle before adding any more fish. (Very close!) I absolutely love Barbs! Super active and very entertaining to watch. All 6 school together. I highly recommend these types! My next 2 fish will probably be Barbs!

Kissfn,
Still hasn't happened yet, eh? Sorry to hear that. In my fishless cycle I have passed phase two, and am squarely in phase three. The NH3 and NO2 dropped to zero in 12 hours with a 3ppm dose, but haven't done it yet with a 4ppm dose. It is close, but not quite... Last night it took 14.5 hours. Tonight I couldn't test until 13 hours later, and it didn't quite get it done. NH3: 0.25ppm, NO2 <0.25ppm.

I like the tiger barbs as well, but I've heard they are too aggressive for my other stocking choices... But then again, my tank will only be 30" long not 72"! All that extra room might keep even the most aggressive fish very placid, since there will be so much room for them to roam.

BTW, I know you are worried about overstocking, but that tank should hold 180 inches of fish very easily. You haven't even scratched the surface of that with what you have mentioned, so far as I can tell.
