I have had to move all my main tanks occupants into my 3ft tank for 24 hours while I do a tank swap tonight.
Same substrate, same water, same bogwood, same filters (3 x 1000 lph).

Woke up this morning to find 10 dead. 4 Neons, 2 Harlequins, 2 Bala's and 2 Platies. OMG !

Anyone know what may have caused this ?

Stress of moving ?
Smaller Tank ?

Im stumped !

Test results?

Did you move the substrate over before you put the fish in? Is it possible you stirred up something in the substrate?

Oh, so sorry for your losses. Also wondering, did you do a w/c?

How long did you acclimatise the fish for and how did you go about it?

Ammonia may currently be 0 but there may have been an ammonia spike between the time you put the fish in the tank, left them, went to sleep, woke up in the morning and then saw them dead. Though i would have expected at least some of the hardier ones like the platys & harlequins to survive during a quick ammonia spike _' .

But itss also very possible that a contaminant killed them off. Fish tank hygiene must be vigourous when setting up a new tank & transferring fish to it- even trace amounts of soap, paint, deodorant/perfume, room freshener sprays or certain candles etc can play havoc with aquatic life if allowed to get into aquarium water and can cause serious fatalities very quickly.
