A few weeks back (two or three - would have to check my calendar), I brought home a sickly betta my son had picked out. He was very jumpy and kind of hung at the water without acting as lively as my other fish. He started to act more lively and interactive until Fridayish. . .

He became lethargic and began alternating between flicking and laying at the bottom on his gravel (looking dead). He did that until I went to bed. I added Quick Cure with Malachite Green & Formalin.
The next day I expected him to have passed away, however, instead he just layed there at the bottom (again looking dead), but quit flicking. I did a 100% water change and added Quick Cure and also Aquarium Salt and kept his temp at 78-80.

Today, he's swimming and more active. Again I have done a 100% water change, added more Quick Cure and Aquarium Salt and he seems fine.

FWIW, Quick Cure is for Ich and external parasites. Neither of which he has syptoms of. I thought he might have Velvet, but he never had that gold dust all over him. I wasn't sure what else to use and at the time felt it was worth a shot since he looked near death.

Now that he's improving, it seems, I feel that the aquarium salt has helped. Not sure about the Quick Cure.

My question is, should I make the salt a regular part of his water change regimen? How many more days should I put Quick Cure in his water?

Thanks.

How many gallons or litres is the tank.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Does he look bloated or thin.
What do you feed the fish.

Need to look at your water stats to rule out bad water quality.

For food, he alternates between pelets, blood worms, and flake food. Mostly pelets though. . .he seems to like them. Usually I feed him (and all my fish) once per day (and occasionally every other).

He's not bloated or thin and I change his water often to keep the ammonia levels down (he is by himself and I plan to keep it that way). When I noticed he was sick, I gave him part of a pea and he liked that. . .maybe that helped.

My goal now that he's recovering is to put him in a 5-gallon, but thus far the only set ups for 5-gallons come in kit form. I want to buy a 5-gallon glass tank and a seperate hood with a filter, but none of the stores around me sell hoods for anything under 10-gallons (and I do not want another 10-gallon).

Frozen foods such as brime shrimp and daphnia.
Some green veg.

Okay. Already have the brine shrimp.

I found hoods for 15-gallons but they're online so I'll have to pay shipping. Blah. Gotta make sure my DH is okay with a 5-gallon before moving the fishy.

Ok.
Good Luck.
