Nerites are supposed to be the 'best' algae eating snails. Can you keep nerites and amano shrimp is a planted freshwater tank, wherein the water is acidic and somewhat soft. Is adding calcium a good idea? If so, what products would you use?

all snails do better in neutral to slightly alkaline water with a bit of general hardness. If they are kept in soft acid water they often have soft shells.

Adding calcium will help and you can use any sort of calcium buffer for marine tanks. Alternatively use a rift lake water conditioner but these will raise the PH too.

calcium is good, it also helps the shrimps too ;)

you can buy calcium sulphate(CaSO4) or GH booster from AE

GH booster contains MgSO4 as well as CaSO4
