I added 2x Zebra nerite snails to my aquarium around 4 weeks ago.
I got them as I read that they are prolific algae eaters and thought they would make a good addition to the tank.
I also read that they very rarely breed in freshwater and need brackish water to do so.
It appears not!
I have at least 10 baby Nerites already roaming the tank, they have mottled shells tho.
Does anyone have any experience of this?
Is it normal for Zebra Nerite to reproduce mottled Nerite babies?
I know there are a mottled variety but I assumed Zebra would reproduce Zebra.
Thanks in advance
Alison

Have you added any plants recently? The baby snails will probably be pest snails that were on the plants.

Hi Ben
No I haven't added any plants lately, last addition was around 5 months ago.
These are definitely not pond snails they are already over 1cm big and have different coloured markings on them.

id definately rule out nerite snails. you probably have some babys of another kind

I'll get a photo of them up tomorrow.
If they aren't Nerite I'm stumped!
I've kept fish for many years and never had any pest snails that look like this before.
They've only appeared since introducing 2 Nerites and 1 apple snail.
Maybe they are hybrids!
