if my neons are getting brighter doesnt it mean that my tank is getting healthier??end of cycle as they are like neon tibes now see them in dark or is it bad

Brightly coloured neons are a good sign. It means they are healthy and relaxed. Did you use your neons to cycle your tank with? Ideally they're not really hardy enough to survive a cycle and prefer a matured tank.

yes i did i did have 10 now i have 4 left as pet man says put 10 in after first week they are very hardy. But they wernt i aslohave a cat fish but when i got him from pet shop he was very unactive now in my tank hes crazy.diving to top and back down but im getting more today if my tank has finished cycling

Your pet man was so wrong! Glad you still have some survivors though! :D

What sort of catfish is it? A corydora? If it's a cory, it'll want companions. They often swim up to the surface and back down.

Before you go out and get more fish, you need to see what your water parameters are to see if you have cycled or not. You should have 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite and your nitrates low as well.

Can you test your water and post the results up here? :)

its a bronze cory they say i only needed 1 as he only eats crap of btm.but i will have a look when tank is cycled bin today and amonia has bin and gone.nitrate is goin down to so hopefull in 2 weeks all will be well

What about nitrite?

All corys need to be in groups of 3 or 4 to be truly happy, regardless of your comment about them only eating crap off the bottom!

I think you'd be wise to start reading up about all the fish you like/keep/want to keep as there's more to fishkeeping than "Oh I like that so I'll buy it" :)

nitrate is in middle now on my colour chart oangey yellow when good it goes bright yellow on mine

Hello

great to hear you have started up the hobby. I started up about 4 months ago and it does get very addictive! This is a great forum and everyone tends to give very good advice here! so thanks guys for that!

When your tank is cycled your lfs (as mine did) will probably tell you that you can add as many as you like in the tank at one time. This isn't a good idea, I would recommend adding no more than five in at a time and leaving at least a week between adding them.

I am so jelous by the way, I have been trying to get hold of bronze corys for ages, we only seem to be able to get the pink ones! They are best in groups of 3 or more, and as far as I am aware, no fish really just eats the rubbish at the bottom and need feeding like all of the others.

I would recommend seeing the fish you like, coming back home and reading up on them, or asking the opinions of people on the forum, they are always more than happy to help. :good:

Wow, ive never even heard of a pink cory let alone see one :p

Few points:

1) Cories or any other will not eat 'crap', only way to remove that is to vac or use a powerhead :)

2) NitrAte isnt your problem, waiting for it to go to 0 will be a waist of time, as it wont get there :)

3) As staded, cories in groups of 4 or more and neons need 6+

4) Once ammonia and nitrite are consistantly at 0 for 1 week, then you can add a few more fish :)

Nitrate and nitrite are two different things matey. You need to know about them both, especially nitrite before you can say if your tank is cycled or not :)

Which test kits have you got? Do they have a makers name on them?

 I have bronzes and pinkies...my two albinos are called Pinky and the Brain  I'm old enough to know better but just can't help myself
