Neons Part 2

Hi all,

So today i went down and got 6 neons and they are actully alot kooler thank i first thought. They are so bright its nuts, but the only thing is they dont want to stick together 2 are at the left side, 2 is in the middle and the other 2 just swim about... They meet up in the middle for a little bit then go off again. Any reason for them doing this? Anyway im way happy with them

i got some the other day .they are nicer than i thought and bright up my tank.mine also split up.i wouldent worry about it

I have a small shoal of cardinal tetra (similar) this trait is perfectly natural. When threatened they will regroup. (safety in numbers)

when i bought mine i bort 5, then another 5, they kinda mingled, 1 went off with whitespot and died, another died, the 8 stick together now unless another fish chases them about

they usually do this sometims they are M and F sometimes not.They will usually always stick together all the time.

Do cardinal tetras and Neons mix? i would love them but the lfs never gets them in

Yeah they do, I much prefer cardinals nicer shape with that little bit extra colour.
You LFS must be pretty poor if he/she does not stock these from time to time.

The Aquatics club gets them in now and again but they are gone withing 10mins lol... there may be a way of reserving some, ill look into that

My head + tail tetras go off into groups aswell.

Neons will school if they feel stressed - it's a defense response - safety in numbers. When they're in a secure environment they'll be quite happy to wander off on their own. Depending on your tank size you can get a bunch more and they'll look like they're schooling more. I currently have 16 in my 55, they look good at feeding time

I agree, i thought that neons were just a fish that was cheap and that people with 10G tanks bought but now i have them in my tank they look so great!! they normally look crap in the lfs tho.
