Neons And Angelfish

My parents have just brought me and my brother a tropical fish tank with a filter, heater, and a few other things. The tank is only small 5.5 U.S gal, i would like to have a angelfish but my brother wants neon tetras. This leads me to my first question, can 4-5 neons be kept in a 5.5 U.S Gal with 1 angelfish? If these fish can be kept together can any other small fish be kept in the same tank, (im thinking mollies/guppies)

To put it short you cannot keep an angel fish in there, the tanks way too small. Secondly, the angel fish would eat the neons even if you had a big enough tank. I dont think it would be fair to keep 4-5 neons in that tank, because they prefer to be be in groups at least of 6 unless you have other similar fish in the tank(which you dont have space for). If i were you, i would get a betta .

Ok i go to plan b then, ill use the 5.5 gal for my two goldfish and put the heater and filter in the goldfish tank which is 20 gals i think. Cheerz three fingers. Any suggestions on fish for a 20 gal tank then?

a 5.5 gallon is not big enough for one goldfish, let alone two.....
a 20 gallon won't be big enough for a fully adult goldfish from what i hear...

yep you got to be careful with goldfish... even those 1 inch commets (feeder goldfish) gorw to about 16 inches whis is WAY bigger then what should be kept in a 20.... no offence though, we all have to learn our own ways.... i'd suggest maybe taking the goldfish back to the LFS or something because they will only suffer if they don't have adaquate living space.

I'd put a betta in the 5.5g then take the goldies back unless you buy a 30usg+. Then setup a nice community tank in your 20g or something along those lines.

Danh, your new tank is too small for an angelfish and a few neons, plus larger angels do sometimes eat vunrable neons. So probably not the best combination, but there are loads of interesting fish that could be good substitutes..

For the 5.5 you could possibly have a dwarf puffer [might need 2 check on that], really funky little fish, great to watch.

Also, the 20gal. is also too small for 2 goldies, as said. They will need a larger tank as they grow, and ponds are really the ideal place for commons - unless you can acomodate a huge coldwater tank.

If you did decide to turn the 20gal. into a tropical tank, then there would be countless options available!

Ok cheerz people, i would take the goldies back but i've had them for a good 4 years now. Im thinkin along the lines of leaving the goldies in the 20g and taking the 5.5g back to the lfs and buying a juwel rekord 60/70? Any ideas on the capacity of these tanks.

Cheerz sparky, ill probs have to go with a rekord 60 because of the height of the 70 being higher than the unit for it to go in. Any one know where i can buy a rekord 60 online?

I think seapets is about the cheapest for the rekord 60. They do free delivery on all tanks as well

What ever you do, don't put neons with angels!!!!! I did that. Put seven in one night, three were missing in the morning, then one the next couple of days. Although it could have been my big knife fish on the other hand

Cheerz Chris, next task is to persuade my parents the small tanks to go back. I'll put pics of the rekord up when its sorted. Cheers for all ya help so far guy im sure it will be needed in the near future. Thanks Choc, i quess its time to go back to the drawing board on the stocking.
